Post subject:  Best Dress Watch from Breitling

I currently own a white faced two-tone steel and gold chronomat on a brown croco strap as well as a black face navitimer on a black leather strap. I wear the chronomat with kakis and a button down shirt, or other similar business casual attire. I wear the Navitimer on a more everyday basis with jeans etc.

The one type of watch that my collection is missing is a watch for formal wear. I need something to wear with a black suit. I would like to put it on a bracelet.

So, what would be your choice for a dress watch from Breitling? What styles or colors would be your preference? I would love to hear some other opinions.

I think the Flying B would make a great dress watch. Also a Bentley Motors T, but it's a little blingy, imho.

If I was buying a watch to wear with a suit everyday, I like the cockpit for it's simplicity. If money wasn't an object, I'd also go for the flying B.

ctmartin,

Get an All Gold Bentley Flying B Chronograph with a dark dial, black or blue would be good and on the GOLD Speed Bracelet OF COURSE. That is one dressy watch and also a FULL LING ! If money is an object look into the Cartier Roadster Chronograph XL in 2 tone. It's very dressy without being too plain like a lot of dress watches are. In 2 tone they go for just under 9 Grand. I may get one myself next year to hold me over until I can swing the All Gold Ling !

I think there are many B-lings that make nice dress watches.

The Flying B is a fine example, and anything on a polished bracelet.

Thanks for the replies so far! The Flying B is a gorgeous watch, but my budget for this watch will be only $5,000 U.S.D. I am strongly considering either the Cockpit with a dark dial, or possibly the headwind if I could find it around somewhere. Both of those would be well within the budget.

As for the appearance, I think a dress watch should be a little bit more plain than an every day watch. For example, I love my Navitimer, but I think that the dial is too sporty for it to be a dress watch. Keep the responses coming!

I have a Cockpit as an every day watch and it works well with any outfit - suit, casual or anything inbetween. Mine is a black face because I love the contrast between the black and the stainless, but the charcoal also looks spectacular.

I would suggest looking outside of Breitling as well. The watch that goes with everything in my opinion, the Rolex Submariner and the very classy Cartier Roadster!

In that price range I would look outiside Breitling as well, the Rolex GMT Master IIc or the JLC Reverso Big Date!!!

i believe a dress watch is supposed to be simple. no chronos, just an hour hand and a minute hand, maybe a second hand and date function at most. in addition to the jlc reverso big date, there are classic looking nice jlcs in that price range. all depends on what style you're looking for.

I have an havana color dial Bentley Mark VI on a Croco deployment. Beautiful dress watch for that :
1. it's smaller than the conventional breitling
2. platinum, MOP as number and croco can't go wrong
3. not as expensive as the flying B

I also own couple of Tiffany mark watches, and i think they are great dress watch. and the ladies recognize them instantly! most ladies don't know what Breitling is and they can't tell the different between a Breitling and a Seiko.

Great question...

Personally I would go for the Bentley GT. I love the look of that watch, especially love the Speed bracelet.

Speaking from an entirely unbiased position, I might suggest Panerai - the Radiomirs are VERY classy dress watches, IMHO

My opinion, also from an entirely unbiased point of view ;) is that you should look seriously at the Cockpit. I think its a fantastic watch, quite thin for a Breitling, and with a clean dial, and nice big date feature. The Grey dial is my favourite. However, I also think that a Navitimer on leather makes a very nice looking dress watch.

Having said all that, If I had $5000 to spend on a dress watch I would probably look outside Breitling. I'd likely try and snag a Yachtmaster second hand for slightly more, or I would get a Zenith Chronomaster XXL.

Now If I had $10,000, I'd grab a Flying B, no question. However, I don't think the Flying B is really a great dress watch as it is VERY big and has Super Avenger-like prescence, in a more dressy package. It will likely not fit under tighter cuffs. There is a smaller Flying B that might fit the bill though.
