I have been trying to zero in on my first breitling and asking for opinions on SOHC Vs SA for a couple of days now.

A forum member advised me to try on more models. So I pay a little visit to my AD to find my self even more confused...ha ha

He showed me the Chronomatic in 49mm, in an aero classic woven steel strap. I found my needs of size and a classic watch getting fulfilled at the same time. Dia bigger than SA and the same strap as SOHC !! IN life everything comes witha spoiler alert, the chronomatic was a $1000 more expensive than either of my original choices ?!?!

Anyone here has a user's review on it so I can decide whether its worthwhile to postpone (as much shit i'd have to take from her !!) a 4 night vacation to a SPA in the hills with my girl friend !

I Just hope she doesn get to know about my recent obsession with :lingsrock: and she never gets to read this...

I like the CM49 with the exception of the rubber bezel. I guess your choice of watch is very much dependent on what you are going to use it for. If you plan to go swimming in it, then I'd go with the SA or SOHC as the CM49 is not a watch to get wet. The finer construction of the CM49 may also have a bearing on what you use it for. None of the Navi range could be considered as sports watches. However if you plan to use it for not much more than desk-diving then the CM49 is great choice, and definitely a step apart from the far more common SA.

Dude,

The Chronomatic 49 is a much more interesting piece than the SA.

The rubber bezel actually represents a more durable way of achieving the original all black bezel of the 1806, of which the Chronomatic 49 is a modern interpretation. True, it would have been cooler if the Crown was on the left hand side, like the original, but overall, it’s an awesome design.

Of course, if you wanted an original 1806 from the 70’s, some mint condition models are still out there – but they’re not as chunky, with a big slab of domed sapphire crystal, modern movement etc etc.

It appears this watch has grabbed your attention, so I reckon you should go for it. The reaction of most people to the SA is “Wow that’s huge…”, whereas the Chronomatic 49 is a much more refined, yet still brutal, piece.
