Hey new to the site and fourm. wondering if you can use the superocean metal strap on any watch. at the watch store the rude man told me that it would only fit on that watch. even though the iron horn width is 20 mm witch fits my watch.

Oh man, oh well. any reason, like a little nuance they put in it to block that? also what watch would you recommend the colt quartz or colt auto.? dont say auto. just cause its auto. was at the store and looking at them, the bezel didnt seem to line up on any of the two. nor the sec. hand wth the min. markers on the quartz. bit of a bother in my opinion. love the look of breitlings just a bit turned off by my first venture. i own an omega seamaster quartz

Because of the end links which are different for the various models.
I always say Auto. :)

I'll probably only say quartz two more times. (when I sell them)

Ok nice the auto is only 200 dollars more than the quartz. Weird imo. how many sec. per day off is the eta movement used in the colt auto.? how much will the servicing cost and how frequent will it need it? lastly, has any one noticed the bezel not lining up on your breitling? slap me around like a red headed step child for asking this but why is everyone so hard for autos.? i know its cool to have your wrist do the winding, but once the newness of having that wears off, they are less durable and keep worse time. im not saying i like one better by any means, just want some different perspectives. thx for the quick responses :D

It's modified ETA and it's COSC (-4/+6).
Depends on country and service... viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10412&hilit=breitling+service+costs
Most folks say 4-5 years. I'd send it when it start loosing or gaining more than before.
It can happen.

In my experience there are two types of watch people - the ones that 'get' the appeal of mechanical watches and those that don't. Nothing wrong with either, but if you don't get it then no amount of discussion is going to let you get it.

Personally, if accuracy is vitally important then I'll look at my cell phone or buy a $10 watch from Walmart. To me a mechanical watch is just so much more.

Roffensian: im so glad you told me how you feel. i think i was so hung on the inaccuracy that i was ignoring the beauty of the movement. well truthfully my seamaster quartz is about 15 sec off per 3 months, and slow at that. i guess its not all about the accuracy as my phone would suffice. my next big issue is service. how much does that cost? im in raleigh nc and really dont want to send it to eu for service. the colt quartz says its a 8 year battery life.moving to the auto., someone also spoke about the movement being modified. what does that mean? does the colt auto use the same movement as the high end breitlings? thanks so much for the feed back guys, great site!

All Breitlings (except the new B01 Chronomat) use modified movements from ETA or Valjoux (which are actually owned by the same company). That means they buy ebauches - essentially kits and modify some of the parts to improve the quality. There is no quality difference between a Colt and any other Breitling, though the Bentley range is supposedly more refined - largely cosmetic I believe. There are a number of different movements, but they are all of the same standard.

Servicing of a mechanical Breitling is recommended every 5 years, though realistically it's probably closer to 7 with 'average' use - bottom line is it needs servicing when it can no longer keep accurate time.

Servicing in the US is generally done by BUSA in CT, costs are currently approximately $350 for a non chrono and $500 for a chrono - exact costs will vary with model and what needs doing.

Well it's a lot better than a quartz.

A mechanical watch that is looked after will still be running and capable of being maintained hundreds of years from now - a quartz will become a paperweight the first time that you have a problem with the movement after the movement becomes unsupported. Breitling has supposedly (I've never seen evidence) agreed to support movements for 20 years after they stop using them, but that depends on them being available from the supplier and in watch terms, 20 years is nothing.

And don't expect quartz servicing to be much cheaper than mechanical - it's not just a case of throwing in a new battery, they need servicing as well.

ok great feedback. maybe if you could include what kind of stuff is involved in the service on a battery, other than the swap of a new battery. the quartz movement can get messed up? to sum it all up the automatic will last longer if both reg. serviced? thanks for all the help guys! think im leaning towards automatic. :lingsrock:
