Post subject: | Crosswind worth Keeping? |
I bought a crosswind off ebay. It is my first breitling and the watch is awesome. It is authentic, came with original boxes, warranty booklet, cosc certificate, and instruction book. One problem with it, there is a sticker on the box and the cosc cert is not from this crosswind. It has a model number on the box of a different crosswind and the serial numbers from the box and the cosc cert match, but aren't the same as this watch. The warranty booklet is perforated with the AD in USA and matches the serial number on the watch. To me the cosc cert is important because I will most likely resell the watch a few years from now to upgrade to something newer. Is this worth keeping and trying to get a cosc cert reissued or should I return it to the seller and keep my search for an excellent condition crosswind with all the original paperwork with the watch. Any advice and thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot. |

Adding the fact that its off ebay....I would definately return it, get your money back and use this forum to help get you the watch you want with all matching paperwork. MAC |

Probably best to post up some good, clear pictures of the watch and paperwork etc so the experts on here can make a good judgement on authenticity and if its worth keeping or returning. |

As MartC said, post us some pictures and we can let you know if it's authentic or not. There aren't any really good fakes of the Crosswind, so we'll be able to tell you pretty quickly. If it IS genuine, then you can send the watch to Breitling and they will "officially" authenticate it for you, and for the price of around £30 GBP / $50 USD they will reissue a COSC certificate for you. If the warranty card matches the watch, (and the manual is a genuine Crosswind manual, and the NOT fake Crosswind Special version) then you will have all the important documents. $2000 USD is a pretty decent price IMHO, so as long as the watch is genuine and in as good a condition as you say it is, and the warranty card is genuine (as Breitling will never replace these) then I'd say it's probably not a bad buy. The thing with the Crosswind is, it's getting older now, and as a result some have been through a few different owners and some of the paperwork may have gone walkies. The Crosswind was and still is a great watch though. |

I tried to take some picture with my phone because I don't have my camera with me, when I get home I will post better pics. But the pics from the phone were terrible, blurry, and would make it look like a fake. The watch is SS with white face and mop subdials. The watch is in really good condition. The Breitling "B" is on the bezel, the manufacture date is on the watch under the bracelet (2703 is what the number is I believe, I didn't write it down, just took a quick look) the double AR is in tact and good shape. The face is beautiful, all the hands have the luminecent on them along with the roman numberals. Numbers are stamped on the bracelet. The serial number is the same as the warranty book. The subdials are MOP. The manual is the actual crosswind, not the crosswind special. The paperwork has a texture to it, not smooth like some cheap paper. Everything that I have researched looks good. Other than opening up the back all the little things seem to be there. If there is anything else that I may want to look at to tell I would appreciate the info. Thanks for all your advice and help, I really appreciate it. It helps me out a ton. I will post pics soon. |

Here are some pictures, let me know what you think (about the watch), I'm not a very good photographer. |

Below is my blue-dial CW with UTC which I sold last year. If it had the white dial MOP subs as yours, I would definitely have kept it. BTW, until the new version Blackbird was introduced a few years ago, the Crosswind was the ONLY Breitling chronograph with Superluminova on ALL hands, hour markers and indices. MUCH nicer than the "plated" Romans on subsequent Breitlings IMHO.... ![]() |

Thanks for the feedback everybody. I am definately going to keep it. I love the watch, but I just needed some reassurance that I didn't overspend on a preowned crosswind. I took the watch to my local AD but there were no help, they just told me to contact BUSA. I'm going to contact them about obtaining a new COSC cert and I will let everybody know how it goes. |
