Post subject: | Interesting Breitling that I didn't know about... |
So I'm browsing in my local mall to do some shopping with my brother today and I stumble into a watch dealer... from the looks of it they are an AD for Rolex, TAG, Longines, Tissot, and some other "fashionable brands"... I walk in there and ask them "no Breitling?" and they said they used to... but discontinued the line... and she asks me if I favor that brand only... in which I replied, "not really, but I do like Breitling a lot". So I'm browsing around, checking out some Rollies and some of the newer Tags when one of the sales ladies goes to me "I do have ONE left". I check it out... Unfortunately my knowledge of newer and current Breitlings is a bit lacking and I check that the watch is a chronograph, with a DISPLAY BACK... now... I've read before here that there are only a HANDFUL of 'lings that have display backs... of course I didn't know which ones, and I'm thinking, is this FAKE??? And I notice I can see the gears typical of a mechanical movement but she tells me it's a quartz movement... now I'm thinking this lady is crazy... So anyway, I inspect the watch, do a a little flashing on the wrist, (it was pure bliss by the way)... she tells me it's been in her stock for a long time and I noticed she's got it for 30% off... to get rid of it ASAP... I ask her if the warranty is still good and this and that and I'm on my way...JUST WHEN another sales lady comes and tries to prove to me that the watch is legit with papers and is still valid with warranty... she brings out the whole package, I read the warranty card and it reads... CHRONORACER RATTRAPANTE Never heard of it... ![]() of course now I have because I just did some searches on it here... Good thing I kept my mouth shut about the movement... would've made me look like an idiot... ![]() So what do you think? BUY? NO BUY? I figure I can cut a bigger deal maybe... if I offer cold hard cash and plus since they're no longer an AD... By the way, this hobby will be the financial death of me... ![]() |

Really depends if you appreciate a good quartz/mechanical hybrid, and if the price is right. I do recall it is a stunning watch and there are a few guys here that are actively looking for them, so if the price is right, it might be a nice collectible piece, or a flip that can make you a buck or two. |

To find a NOS Chronoracer Rattrapante is pretty rare, especially from an AD. However it's quite a small watch (which is obviously fine if it fits you!) and the meca quartz movement is a bit of an oddity - a good or bad oddity depending on your point of view! Like anything, I'd say that if you like it, then buy it. It sounds like you'll get a pretty good deal, and as I say it'll certainly be extremely rare to be in NOS condition. AND as Mark says if you wanted to sell it on I'm pretty sure there'll be a number of interested potential buyers out there. |

Just to give you some idea of value, one sold on Ebay USA two days ago for $2700 on leather. Last list price 1/5/2000 (U.K) was £2,385 leather, £2,860 SS Pilot, & £2535 Croc. Steve |

Certainly an unusual watch - though I never did understand the DB for a mecaquartz. As others have said, highly unusual in NOS condition. |

It has the two things I wish my watch had: display back and flyback hand. Not that I'd use flyback, I just think it's clever. |
