I love the Blacksteel versions, but I have heard the coating can scratch. I was wondering when they do a compete overhaul if/how they restore the finish if these watches. Anyone know? My TI Seawolf comes back looking like new, can they do that with Blacksteel?

You can't touch up DLC. The coating is very tough and rather than scratch the more likely out come is that a ding will cause the steel to become dented / damaged which will cause it to show through the DLC coating - nothing that you can do about it.

So then they don't actually do a complete overhaul with case refurbishment on these models?

That's definitely a deal breaker for me.

Thanks for the info Roff!

Correct. And it was always a deal-breaker for me too. Surface coatings are a real no-no for me, no matter how cool they can look.

That's not good news for me as I've been battling my inner demons about whether or not to exchange my Slate Gray AS for a BS......they're so darned desirable.

I thought about the same thing before I bought my SA BS, but then i took it out of the case and was amazed how amazing it looks. I am just careful whenever I wear it. I guess to each his own.

I have ordered my first Breitling, a SA "Blacksteel" 2 days ago, and My AD told me that I should have it by the end of July and am eagerly waiting.

I have a few "black" Panerai watches including PVDs, DLC or ceramics and this is new: My AD told me that the Breitling SA "Blacksteel" is NOT a coating on the case. It is a processed carbon in the Titanium to make it look black, which means that the case will still look black even if you scratch it.

I am not sure if my AD is right because I am new to Breitling, so please correct me if I am wrong.

Sorry to say but your AD is wrong. For a start the case is steel, not titanium, and it IS a DLC surface coating. And additionally, as a few owners on here will attest, you CAN scratch it as a couple of them have done. Sadly I think this is another case of an AD employee not knowing enough about their subject.

oh well, I guess it is also a case of "just sell it to the noobs"...LOL...Anyway, thanks for correcting and I am quite happy to have that either a coating or not. It is just look awesome!! I can't wait to see my first Breitling.

Thanks mate, I wish I know more beforehand. It wouldn't affect the pleasure of having it because the AD told me that BS after I paid the deposit!!

Funny enough that I was going to buy a daily banger for a change.....guess I need to look for "another" daily banger now...LOL

BTW, anyone heard that the later production of SA "blacksteel" is with B01 movement? Apparantly, it is rumored in the region....
