Hey guys!

I have had my Chronomat for a little over a month and got a pretty good scratch the other day (see picture below). You can feel it with you nail so it is not just a surface swirl mark. Do you think it can be polished out with a Cape Cod cloth? Or is it something that a jeweler needs to take care of?

Also, I thought about just replacing the links (I have an extra) but I am not sure if they can be replaced on that section of the bracelet.

I know scratches will happen and I don't mind everyday swirl marks, but these slightly bother me.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

To be honest you'll have absolutely nothing to lose by giving the Cape Cods a go. If you find that you aren't getting the result you want - and it make take a fair bit of elbow grease - you can always defer to a jeweller.

I hate scratches as much as the next guy, but if you can make it good enough to live with until the next service, I'd suggest using Cape Cods now and then letting Breitling completely remove it for you at the next service.

You won't be able to replace a link yourself if it's in the "fixed" part of the bracelet. They're laser-welded at the factory, so DIY is a no-no.

The first scratch is always the hardest to come to acceptance with...

It may be worth asking your AD if they can do it.

My AD offers me a complimentary polish every now and then and they managed to remove a fairly hefty ding from the chimney on one of my pieces. Worth asking at least!

Thanks guys!

I know, the first is always the worst. :(

Would an AD be able to polish just those 2 links? I don't want/need a full polish.

Shouldn't be a problem - they'll just use a small wheel on the polisher.

There's no such thing as complimentary anything in the UK! :?

That is a hefty scratch, I would recommend paying a visit to your AD and get them to polish it out, the cape cods are great but be aware they will make the surface look shiny but in bright light you will see a great many micro scratches, in my experience of using CC'S I do not think they would do much for your scratch!

Thanks for all the help guys. I think I am going to drop it off at an AD for a partial polish in the next week or so to get those scratches taken care of.

While examining my watch yesterday I also found this (see pic below) ... It's a small ding on the edge of the bezel. Do you think they should be able to take care of that at the same time? I guess I really need to be more carful ... it might also be time to get a croc strap.

No harm in asking them - if they can't get rid of it completely they should be able to make it less noticeable.

Okay. I'm not really sure how they would go about fixing it, but less noticeable would definitely be good. It is right on the edge ... mostly on the brushed part (top) and only a tiny bit on side (polished). We'll see ... I think I'll go by the AD the week of July 6th ...
