The Emergency is only rated at 30m water resistance so is not suitable for swimming with. Simple chart here http://www.breitlingsource.com/articles_water_resistance.shtml Full details here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_6425 |

I find water resistant on watches very funny. If you look at the Super Avenger it is water resistant to 300m. So say i am scuba diving and i get out of the water i dry my watch and i wanna use the pushers for something, everybody knows that water is the most thinnest thing in the world it can go through any small places. So say you press one of your pushers and just a little drip of water gets in while you press the pusher, and just that drip of little water can damage your watch. I wonder how Breitling handles warranty on that one. I ordered a Super Avenger the 31st last month still waiting on it. But i really wanna use it with everything. And yess also with scuba diving. |

If you choose to land in the water, you might ruin your Emergency with water damage. Doesn't seem too smart does it? Why didn't Breitling bother to improve the water resistance? Am I missing something here? |

The Emergency WR has always struck me as odd, I think it's down to the transmitter rather than the watch itself, but I agree - it's weird. In terms of a drop of water getting in when you use the pusher on a wet watch, it's not really an issue because the gap between the gaskets and the pusher mechanism is thin enough that the surface tension will prevent the water from entering - at depth the pressure will force the water through the gap. |

That's why I picked up a yellow dialed M1 for scuba use. I don't have to think about when I can use the pushers. I also am getting bit by the thought of trying out free diving once we move to Florida this year. I to really want to pick up an emergency incase I'm out maybe a little to far on a jet ski and break down and start flooting out to sea, I want an emergency bad but don't want to worry everytime I'm in the water its going to stop working. I see crazy Bear Grills diving into mud holes, oceans and swamps with one of his on but you never know if it was damaged. I also would really like a true answer on when you can wear one. Has anyone on the forum worn one while in the water? |

Valid point, I somtimes wonder how Grylls gets away with hanging in a waterfall with gallons of water pounding on the Emergency ![]() Last episode I watched, the Emergency disappeared half way through. Wonder if it was damaged? Sure I read somewhere water resistance ratings aren't absolute, more of a standard to which watches are manufactured. Kind of like car tyre speed ratings, where it refers to loadings, temperatures, cornering forces etc *Edit* just read the Wiki link ![]() ![]() |

If you can find an Emergency Mission that has 100M rating so more peace of mind. |

As I've said before most manufacturers will build fat into their WR claims. ie if its 30m like the emergency, really swimming should be fine maybe even water sports. However if 1000 emergency owners did it maybe 1 or 2 might leak water. Its the watch company covering their a$$es. Especially with the emergency. Could you imagine the drama if someone one day needed the transmitter for real & it malfunctioned due to water from swimming alone. In life most companies will err on the conservative. I wouldn't lose sleep while swimming with it. Have it on your home & contents insurance & then live life! My watch has been punished severely over the last couple of years & is still like new. My old seiko(100m) died from my pastimes, my 'ling(50m) is going strong. Just get it pressure tested every year if going in salt water a lot. Now when I get a bentley I must practice what I preach. ![]() |

This is interesting to me. Although I'm going to enjoy my Lings and wear them around, I'm planning on NOT wearing them in sporting or grubby-type events, like gardening, working on cars, exercising, or swimming. Will wear my G-Shock for those--don't need the classy elegant look of Lings when I'm doing those things! |
