Post subject:  Bentley GT vs Motors ... a question of taste

I'm afraid I disagree with some views expressed concerning the GT vs the Motors. I hope to open a vigorous debate amoungst Breitling for Bentley connoisseurs.

The Motors are great - but the GT's are better. This has been the result of a recent poll I conducted with several horological aficionados.

Why?

First, the GT is a more reasonable size - the Motors look too much on all but huge wrists. Besides, a GT is a very chunky watch with a 44.8mm diameter, and still makes a Daytona look kinda puny.

Big doesn't always mean best - just look at those dreadful Bell & Ross'! Vile damned things to be sure. Not that the Motors is vile! It is lovely - but there is one better ... the GT!

Second, the contrasting silver subdials add an element of class, and from a distance, people can easily tell the watch has complications. I reckon contrasting guilloche subdials are a MUST HAVE on a chronograph. From ten meters people can see dials within the dial, and wonder about what the watch does.

Third, the subtle metallic flecks in the GT dial look awesome under bright lights at a bar, art gallery ... wherever you are. Chicks dig it.

Forth, the GT has the date window in a better position AND it also has a day display.

Finally, the GT is the best Bentley car – it’s the cool one …. like the watch.

I’d give the Motors 9/10 and the GT 9.5/10.

Opinions?

The Motors is better and I would know because I bought a Bentley GT about 5 weeks ago and it develped a problem with some discoloration around the outside of the dial due to the fact it was not sealed properly. I took it back to the dealer I purchased it from and they swapped it out for the Full Sized Bentley Motors version. I had to pay the difference in price and it was well worth it. I had the Black Diamond face GT and it was great but no comparison to the Motors. The Motors model is bigger and better and it has the 30 second Chronograph, 38 jewels VS 25, a better mvement and the bracelet expands into the watch and is also wider at the point where it joins with the watch by getting wider gradually from the fourth link down. I did like the silver sub dials on the GT but overall the Motors is WAY BETTER. The GT is just a JUNIOR Bentley for beginners. If you want a Bentley do yourself a favor and go for the Full Sized Models in 48.7 MM. I have 2 Chronomats at 39 MM and now they are like ladies watches to me after wearing the Bentley. My next step is a Mulliner Perpetual in Rose Gold. GT's are for KIDS, BE A MAN AND GET THE REAL BENTLEY !

"38 jewels VS 25, a better mvement..."

Is that your reason for claiming it is a better movement? And by better what do you mean?

I like the way the GT looks better. I vote GT.

Post subject:  GT VS Motors

I'm not an expert on Calibre or movement and really didn't even consider it before getting the Bentley Motors home after turning in the GT. The Motors is a Calibre 25-B VS a 13-B for the GT and you can notice the difference when you use the watch. When you depress the knob to turn on the second hand it is a smoother "click" that requires less pressure to activate, the second hand sweeps the entire diameter of the dial in 30 seconds VS 60 seconds, when you shake the watch and hold it up to your ear to hear the self winding mechanism you notice a difference there, and the sub dials are at 3,6, and 9 instead of 6,9 and 12 giving the watch a more symmetrical look. Now lets get into size, I was in Bentley denial when I purchased the GT. After wearing Chronomats for 7 years I too thought the Bentley Motors was too big but after wearing the GT for a week I went back to the dealer and tried on the Motors and realized after getting used to the GT that the FULL SIZE Bentley was the way to go. When you hold the Motors up to your ear and listen to it you notice the difference there too, it has a fast clicking sound that is different from the GT due to the different Calibre. The Tritium on the hands is also on 2 of the hands on the the sub dials and when you look at it in the dark it lights up like an airport runway at night. The bracelet expands into the watch and is wider at the point where it joins the watch so the bracelet is bigger too due to the wider interhorn width. It's just a better watch all around and if you are into how it looks in bars as was mentioned earlier in this forum take it from me the Motors stands out more than the GT. If you want a Bentley get a WHOLE Bentley not 2 thirds of one.

I like both watches but when you compare them side by side the motors is much nicer and just has a better presentation! I vote for the full size motors.

As I posted in another thread, I prefer the Motors T specifically. I like the newer style bezel on the Motors T. However, comparing the Motors and the GT I still prefer the Motors as I found the size looked really good. Initially before having tried them both on and seeing them in person I did not have a real opinion as I liked them both... but seeing both on my wrist I preferred the Motors. The Motors has as very large diameter face, however it is slightly thinner than the GT...and quite a bit thinner than many Breitling Chronographs. So even though it's similar in size to a Super Avenger, it is MUCH sleeker and classier.. feels a lot less clunky. The GT is also very nice. If I had a choice, I'd pick the Motors, but i wouldn't complain if given the GT as a gift ;) One thing to note about the Motors is that I did not like the white face on it. I will admit I like the white subdials on the GT but sometimes you want the subdials more subdued.. kinda like the Navitimer World

acceldebt: so are you selling those two chronomats now? ;) or maybe giving them away? :D

Post subject:  Chronomats

Admin,

I'm holding on to them for now because I may at some point in the future decide I need a smaller watch for some occasions but I can tell you that after getting the Bentley when I put on those Chronomats I can't even look at them without cringing. They just look TERRIBLE ! The Chronomat Vitesse is a 2 tone Gold and Silver with a blue face and gold bezel with the gold Arabic numerals. It's a great watch but it's just too small. I am really dying for a Rose Gold Bentley and I don't know if I can wait for the Mulliner I may go with a 6.75 in Rose gold by the end of the year .

it's unfortunate that I do not have a big enough wrist to be a "real man" but as i DO have a small wrist the GT does seem to work better on my wrist. so my vote is the GT. Plus i love the day-date feature.

Wow, this is an old thread!

I'd already voted on this a long time back, but not posted a reply so I will now.

Motors all the way for me!

The size alone sets it apart from pretty much anything else even vaguely similar on the market, and yet it still remains very classy looking. The 30 second chronograph movement is unique in the Breitling range and is therefore not used in any other Breitling watch. I also like the fact that sub-dials are the same colour as the rest of the dial - it just tones things down a little and seems to suit the classy look of the Motors.

Obviously there is absolutely nothing at all wrong with the GT per se. It's a lovely watch, but it's just that for me it's not sufficiently differentiated from a number of other Breitling models, both in size and movement. IMO Bentleys should be classy but also a little ostentatious - just like the cars themselves - and the GT (the watch that is) is just a bit "Bentley-Lite" to me.

Oh and I've never liked day-date displays either!

For Me Its The GT, Why does a Real man need such a Big Watch? Little man Sindrome maybe, who knows, lol, its just personal taste, not meant to be taken personally! Day Date wins it everytime!

I was at the AD the other day trying to decide on which ling to buy and had the opportunity to try the GT and the Motors and i gotta tell that the motors definitly wins it for me. I thought that only having a 6.75 wrist that the motors was going to over power my arm but it didn't. So guess what..yes i will wait to get the few extra bucks together and wait for the motors.

Cheers,
Peter
