What free stuff should I ask for?

I'm fixing to buy a Super Avenger. I'm planning on paying MSRP (With a $1k discount coupon and $1k in gift certificates), so I figure I should ask for some free stuff, like a croc strap. I was wondering if there's anything else I should ask for, like a tang buckle (Actually, I'm still not sure how a tang buckle works :oops:

). I've tried searching but haven't really found anything. Any suggestions will be appreciated, thanks guys!

Is this your first breitling? Breitling sends you a baseball cap after your first watch purchase. I don't think they give out croc straps or tang buckles, but you know there are others who might know better than I.. It never hurts to ask either.

Congrats on making the super avenger choice...you will also learn SA is another way of saying super avenger..

This indeed will be my first Breitling, and I didn't know about the hat. I seem to remember reading on this board a couple of times one can bargain for straps, and that's usually in combination to getting a discount. I know I could get a 15% discount, but the $1k discount is a promotion that can't be combined with any other promotion. So since I'm paying MSRP, I figure that should be worth maybe both a croc strap and a rubber strap, maybe more. I'm buying my Super Avenger from Tourneau, so I can either buy it from a salesperson here in VA and pay 5% in sales tax, or I can order it by phone and have it shipped to my gf's place in Indiana, where I wouldn't have to pay sales tax. Basically the salespeople are going to have to make it worth my while to buy it from them and give them their commission.

...I should point out I've been a member of this board for over a year, so I know SA is the usual shorthand for Super Avenger. But when it's my first watch, and I'm talking about specifically my first watch, it's not an SA, it's a Super Avenger.

Not to rain on your parade, but I highly doubt you will be seeing a croc strap or any strap for a "freebie". I would think that the only thing you might expect from the AD would be a promotional item (i.e., cap, shirt, pen). Expecially for a first time Breitling purchase. Most of the premier goodies, are reserved for the repeat customers that buy many watches per year and most dont even come from the AD's, they are sent out from BUSA or BUK (although less frequent from the UK).

i dont believe ther is a bargaining deal made with breitling other than a hat or lighter if you buy a watch. if you can get a croco then i think all of us would like to know where to buy our next piece. i wouldnt go overboard on asking for freebees. you might loose a good relationship with your ad.

A free Croc strap? Especially from Torneau?!? You might be able to get a discounted price on an additional strap, but never heard of anyone getting a free OEM Croc strap! If you use a discounted coupon for $1000, you're not paying MSRP, its the same as getting about 20% off. I'm almost sure that as long as Torneau has a store in the state you want them to ship to, Indiana in your case, they're still going to charge you sales tax. However you go about your purchase, its a great choice, congratulations!

I think I'd be forgetting the Tourneau promotion and using another AD where you won't be basing the price on msrp and will end up with a better deal - George at Govberg would appear to be an obvious example.

In terms of a free croc strap - good luck!!! A $10 (to Breitling) cap, sure - a $350 croc strap - not so much.

Well, Since I have $1k in Tourneau gift cards (got it from reward points with my credit card) I can combine the two to get my Super Avenger for $2550. I've already talked to Greg, and he said (not surprisingly) he can't match the 44% off. (44% off if I don't pay sales tax)

What you say is true, but since Tourneau actually doesn't have a store in Indiana, thus the lack of state sales tax. Thanks Mac, I've been eying an SA for over a year now, and I'm finally comfortable with pulling the trigger.

Thanks for the info guys, of course I'm going to ask the local guy for a croco strap, but if he can't give me something worth the $228 I'd be paying in sales tax I'm ordering it over the phone and shipping it to Indiana. ...And it looks like I'll be ordering it over the phone.

Regardless, I'm pumped and will post pics as soon as I get my hands on it. :lingsrock:

I just used a $1000 gift card at the tourneau here in san jose ca yesterday. I finally pulled the trigger and picked up a super avenger blacksteel. it was priced at $5700 minus the $1000 and my sales guy hooked me up with an ocean racer strap with the deployment clasp. definitely doesnt hurt to ask.

If anyone else wants to take advantage of their promo call up the san jose tourneau and ask for Minh.

Have you checked to see if you can use the $1000 off coupon with the (I'm guessing) $1000 Amex reward points gift certificate? Both cards say they cannot be used with any other promotion. I was thinking about doing this for a Colt Quartz on Diver Pro which would have made the price $55. I'd be very curious to see if it worked for you.

Don't be afraid to ask for any type of discount. Even Donald Trump negotiates for expensive items. My ad told me they will automatically give you 20% off within the first second you ask what kind of deal you can get. So there is a lot of room for negotiating.

Please note that (depending on which state you live in) just because you buy an expensive item over state lines does not me it's not taxable. It just means the state you buy the item in cannot tax you since you aren't a state resident. You still will owe taxes and not paying them can be considered cheating on your taxes. I don't mean to ruin anybody's fun

I don't think you got the best deal on your watch.

You should have negotiated a deal with the salesman before you wipped out your $1000 gift card. The people at theTourneau here offer discounts without me even asking for it and I'm not a regular nor have I bought anything from there. You could have gotten 20% off MSRP easy, then your $1000 off. You should have walked out paying $3,560 plus tax then bought the strap on ebay.

The reason you got the "free" strap is because they got over on you on the mark up.
