Post subject:  Winder question

I just got an Official Time Van Gogh winder. Very pretty and nicely made. But I have one question:

It is a dual winder, and I got it to wind a Steelfish and a Chrono Avenger. The Steelfish(B17) wants a both direction wind and the CA(B13) wants a clockwise wind. The winder has a single setting for both cups. So if I set it to wind either both or clockwise, with both watches get properly wound? Will either watch be damaged? Any Ideas?

Nice winder - I have the same one!

First of all, whichever program you choose will not damage your watch in any way. Secondly the B17 doesn't need a bi-directional wind - it just means that it can wind in both directions. In other words you could wind it in both or one or the other directions and it will still be wound. The B13 will only wind if it moves in a clockwise direction : if you move it in the other direction the rotor will simply "free-wheel" and therefore won't wind the mainspring.

Personally I tend to use the bi-directional wind cycle, as it's slightly more "natural" in as much as your wrist will move in both directions, but if you want to ensure that all the engery goes into winding your watches, I'd use the clockwise program. That way both watches will be wound. If you used the anti-clockwise direction, your Steelfish woudl be wound but your Chronomat wouldn't.

:yeahthat before becoming a member of this site I had the same question and ended up sending a email to either Breitling or Omega at the time and was told the same thing.

Thanks for the quick answers. I kinda figured that I could just wind it CW, but I wanted to be sure.
