Post subject:	superocean heritage or an omega?
Just wondered what people would suggest as far as quality on a superocean heritage vs a omega planet ocean... Also - is there a big savings in buying a brietling from the states or from a tax free shop (such as heathrow airport) rather then buying locally in the UK. Will be my first brietling if I buy it (actually first expensive watch) but really like the look of the superocean heritage. Any help, info, advice, etc would be appreciated. Thanks

Personally I'd go for the SO Heritage and leave the Omega. My personal view is that Breitling is nicer (hmm, how come that I have just as many Omegas as Breitlings...) - especially if you're getting your first. For price, my recommendation for a low price is to shop in US (and especially with the low dollar). Much cheaper than Heathrow. The disadvantage is that it's a bit trickier if you'll have some issues you'd like to sort out after the acquisition - that is easier to do in person than by FedEx...

Hmmmm, in general terms I would agree with the guys and say buy Breitling over Omega. They are both great brands and I've owned (and currently own) both, but Breitling edges it in a number of areas for me. However in terms of the two watches you are considering then my personal preference would be the Omega, but that's just because I'm not a fan of the SO Heritage. There's nothing wrong with it in terms of build.... it's just the looks I don't like! I agree with aleister too about the US being the place to buy at the moment if you don't fancy paying top dollar here at a UK AD. HOWEVER, just a note of caution on import duty - you can get stung quite badly at this end. For example, a while back I bought a Tag to sell on from the states for £480, and lo and behold I got stung for £99 by customs (VAT, the good old "handling charge", etc, etc). That's over 20%!

So gonna go with the superocean, not really feeling the omegas. I went into my local AD (goldsmiths aka watches of switzerland) and they said that is wasnt possible to get the steel bracelet yet. They also have sold the only one they had in store and aparently there are only 5 avaliable from them throughout england... So now in a bit of a dilema... not going to get it until I sell my current watch but I want both the rubber and steel straps (btw, does anyone know if Ill be able to change these over myself)? Would it be better to wait until the steel braclet comes out and buy the rubber strap or just get the rubber strap version and buy the braclet when it becomes avaliable. Also, how do people feel on the size of the 46? They didnt have one for me to try on but I figure that the 46 will fit better then the 38... even though my wrists are not very big. I wear a Gucci G 101 at the moment and I belive its a 42, don't want to go smaller. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks

I think the 46 looks better than the 38, it fills out the wrist in a nice way. However, I also like the small seconds on the 38. I'd prefer the small seconds on a 46 with bronze dial but now when that's not an option I vote for the 46 bronze dial version. I'm a bit impatient so I would go for the watch and take any bracelet/strap I could get and at the same time order the other. Then collect the watch when it arrives and wait for the remaining bracelet or strap. You should be able to change between strap/bracelet yourself, as long as you're careful and get the proper tools for it.

Couple of points on this one - Firstly the steel mesh bracelet IS available in the UK. My AD had one a couple of months ago that I tried on. Your AD might just be being a bit cheeky on this one to make sure you don't go anywhere else..... Secondly, I personally found the 38mm too small, and the 46mm a little too large, especially considering the "plainness" (if that's a word!) of the dial. (But as i said earlier I'm not personally a fan of the SO Heritage anyway). On which strap/bracelet to buy aftermarket, if I was you I'd be tempted to buy the watch from the AD on the rubber (if you're sure you really want the rubber one of course ), and then look for the mesh bracelet elsewhere...... like via an online dealer or even eBay. You'll potentially save more on buying the more expensive bracelet on line than buying the much cheaper rubber strap. And also it means you can buy your new watch NOW.... which is a good thing!! Lastly, in terms of changing bracelets/straps - it's a dead easy job provided (as aleister has said) that you have the right tool. You can pick up fairly cost effective watch repair tools on eBay, although all you really need is the strap removal tool.
