Hi, guys! :wink:

I'm thinking of adding a 3rd Breitling to my little collection which now consists of a Super Avenger and a SOH 46, both with black dials and on SS bracelets.
I really like the new version of the Seawolf and would choose the Grey dial version, because I think it gives it that sporty, tool-watch look. To enhance this even further, I'd like to get it on a rubber strap. I like the standard Diver Pro strap fine, but I would prefer the Ocean Racer, I love the holes and the size, looks really cool IMO. :lovesloves:

So, I have two questions for you guys, hope you can help me out:

1. Can you get the Ocean Racer with a brushed clasp, so it would match the case of the Seawolf and if not, is the difference in finish very noticeable?

2. Could anyone provide me with some pics of the exact watch I have in mind, Seawolf with a grey dial on an Ocean Racer? I searched far and wide and could not find that exact combo.

Thanks in advance and take care!

David

Make it up yourself. It only gives you one view but you get the idea.

Thanks, I already tried that site but the pics aren't that great and would really prefer to see some real life photos. Also, you can barely see the strap in those photos. :(

Hi David,
Yes, the Ocean Racer is available with a brushed clasp. Or possibly your AD can brush it for you. I have the black dial version of the Seawolf on OR, and my AD offered to brush it for me at no charge. I have yet to get that done.
I think the brushed clasp would look better with the grey dial. For me - with the black dial - the polished look is great, especially as the sides of the case are polished as well. The clasp does get a lot of scratches, though, and it is quite big, so one day I will likely have it brushed.
The only pics I have seen of the new Seawolf with grey dial, are with the PRO II bracelet. In my opinion, the brushed PRO II with the grey dial is a perfect combination. I may yet get a PRO II even for my black dial.
I don't honestly know if the OR with the grey dial would have as good an effect. To me, the best way to go with grey dial is PRO II, and the best way to go with black dial is OR as it really brings out the black on the dial.
If you do a search in the Gallery section, there are plenty of pics with the Grey dial and stainless bracelet combo. Or maybe you know that already.
Have you considered the Seawolf with a blue dial? That would look great with a blue OR. I have seen pics, and in person, the Super Avenger and the Avenger Skyland with blue dial and blue OR. It looks fantastic.
Cheers,
Carl

Again, Im with Carl here. I have the Grey Dial Seawolf, and after seeing it at an AD on the black OC strap I opted for the bracelet. The black strap didnt accentuate anything on the dial and it gave it a weird look. (at least to me) The bracelet in my opinion suits the Grey Dial best and the OC strap suits the Black Dial best.

Sorry for my lack of pic of the Grey with OC strap. I had only saw it first hand at an AD a few months ago.

This is not exactly on subject. I have the OR on my Blue Steelfish. It looks great. IMO the OC strap looks the best on the Seawolf. It is also, IMO, the most comfortable strap in the lineup. As far as brushed vs polished, as earlier stated, polished does match the polished portions of the watch but will scratch easier. However the clasp will not be seen much anyway, therefore I will wait until it is scratched up to worry about brushing it.

Different note, I think the yellow dial with OR strap would be for me. A little less Bling, yet terrifically noticable and readable.

You realy can't go wrong with any strap you choose. I had a gray dial Skyland on a Ocean Racer strap and it looked superb. I currently own a new SS black dial Seawolf which I wear exclusively on the diver pro strap and a new SS blue dial Seawolf which I wear on a blue diver pro strap. Both pieces look fantastic. I was hesitant about fitting the blue diver pro on the blue dial Seawolf but after seeing it, I was sold. I have yet to fit the PRO II bracelet on either of them as I love the way they look on rubber. The PRO II is sitting in the watch box...for now:)

the easiest way to see it is to go to an ad and ask them to put an ocean racer on a slate dial watch. (if they have one and if you are serious in buying from that store)

in the 2009 chronolog, there is only one slate dial watch with a black strap in the whole book, so i don't think it is a very common combination. if it were me, i would make sure this is the combo i can live with. in the book, the most popular combo for the slate dial seems to be either with a brown leather strap or a stainless steel bracelet. on these it looks stunning.

but again, this is only my view. the choice is up to you. you are the one wearing it.

p.s. as someone mentioned, the gallery is a good place to find that combo. i just saw under 'the colonel's skyland croc snaps', a slate dial and dark blue croc strap combo. it is similar to what you want to do and may give you some insight.

@carlhaluss:

Thanks for all the info! I've been thinking about it and I think you're right... A black rubber strap would really only look best with a black dial, and an SS bracelet is probably the only way to go for a grey dial. That, or a leather strap, to which I am not very partial, since I tend to sweat quite a lot so leather straps aren't really right for me.
Yes, I did find many pics of the grey dial and SS combo, and it really is stunning. I've also seen the blue dialed Seawolf and while I think it's fine, blue dials really aren't my thing.

@g-star:
You're right; it isn't a very common combo. I've bought my other 2 Breitlings at the same AD and maintain a good relationship with them, so I'm sure they could order it in for me. To date, I haven't seen a Seawolf with a grey dial, so I may not even like it, although I doubt it, since it look superb in all the photos I've found.

Thanks to all the other people who have responded as well, it’s always good to hear other inputs.
Mind you, I called my AD yesterday to find out the new prices and I was quite shocked, they increased them by A LOT. :(

Hope it's OK to bring up this older topic, I was just wondering if in the mean time, someone here had purchased a Seawolf with a gray dial and a black rubber (Diver Pro or Ocean Racer) strap?

If yes, please share pics! :camera: :thumbsup:

Cheers,

David
