Post subject:  How many SuperOcean K10040 were made?

I have a SO K10040 and recently discovered that they were a special edition.

I would like to know how many were made.

1) This site says there were 100 made.

2) My watch has serial 244 - which implies they made more than 100.

Anybody have any ideas?

Rob
PS: Yes it is genuine. Was purchased from an authorised Breitling retailer, and has been back to Breitling/Switzerland for repair 3 times (but that is another story) - once under warranty....so they would have spotted a fake.

I dont have much experience with Breitling watches, but i do know that some companies say that they make a certain production of watches, but in real fact they make more. I once purchased a Chopard that was suppose to be of 250 pieces, but mine didnt have a number, i asked my AD and he said they made extras because they sold well.

Another experience with limited is i met a guy once wearing a Hublot watch (i forgot the exact model) that was supposedly of 50 pieces on the website, but on the back of his watch it said out of 25.

Watch companies sometimes make more but dont really publicize it IMO.

Can't talk to other brands, but Breitling makes what they say they make.

In terms of this watch, by Breitling's normal definition it is not a limited edition, it's a special edition. The distinction is that Breitling LEs have XX/XX on the back, SEs have just the number (0244 in this case). Special editions are not produced in a specific number of watches, they are produced for a specific period of time.

The K10040 is an interesting one however because it seemed to be an exception to that rule - papers that stated LE, but a watch that was SE. I've never seen papers for this model that show /100, although Don's information is usually very accurate. Is your example a blue of black dial 1,000M one, or does the paper work specifically say K10040/B223?

I don't think that there's black dial, just blue K1004011/C238 and K1034011/C238
WG were made in black, blue and yellow.
They are not LE, but SE as Roff already said.

The K10040 is an interesting model for Breitling. There were some early variations regarding COSC etc. But it was indeed made with a black dial. Please check the 1997 Chronolog posted on this website.
