I just purchased an old navitimer, how long can these watches be left still before it stops keeping time? i took mine off at night, and when i woke up the time was stopped so i had to move it around a bit and change the time. this is my first nice watch, all my others were run on battery. just seeing if someone could fill me in on some info and tips. thanks

could it be because i didnt wind it 40 times like it said to do? i only wound it about 5 times before cause i wasnt sure if it would mess it up

yes, that could very well be the cause especially if you just wound it 5 times and put it there.

Agreed.

You should wind at least 40 times, especially if you just got it. Normally, you should expect a 30 hour power reserve, newer models at least 40 hours.

It totally depends on how old the watch is. If it's a manual wind verson, then yes you most DEFINITELY can (and will) break it if you overwind it. However if it has a more modern automatic movement, then it will have a kind of slipper-clutch arrangement whereby you can't overwind it. Automatic watches need this as your watch is constant being wound when you are wearing it (and moving, obviously!), so without that failsafe you could easily overwind it.

PS - I'm assuming here that your use of the word "old" was just to say that it's not a new Navitimer, as opposed to the model, the "Old Navitimer"! As far as I know all "Old Navitimers" are automatics in which case, wind away!!

Sorry, but what do you mean "turn in the opposite direction"?

If it's a 2002 automatic Navitimer, then you can't overwind it and you should give it a minimum of 40 winds to achieve a full "charge".

yeah its a 02 navitimer... 13322.. i dunno, this is my first nice watch, im not trying to screw it up! any other helpful hints?

Helpful tips. OK here's a couple -
1. Don't swim/shower in it.... EVER! Navi's don't like the water!
2. Don't use the quickset date function between 9 or 10ish PM and 2 or 3ish AM.
3. Don't put it near any strong magnets - speakers, etc. And it's worth not putting it next to your mobile phone on your nightstand as your mobile is slightly magnetic too.
4. An obvious one, but don't drop it!
And lastly, just wear it, enjoy it, get the bug for Breitlings, and buy more!!!

I'm with you on that one. A lot of the guys on here HATE straps with a passion, but I like them - especially on Navi's. I think it just suits the classic look really well.

Breitling straps are the best I've come across by miles, if a little stiff when new. (Although Corum do very cool straps too - croco sewn onto a core of rubber with leather sewn on the inside - very tough).

And deployant is always the way to go..... unless you fancy investing in new straps every year or so!
