Post subject:  New strap...what to go for?

I've decided that my 5 month old Colt Automatic II is in need of an additional strap. I love the bracelet, but it would be great to have the versatility of changing the strap and almost having a new watch!

My dilemma ot the moment is:
1 Brown on black leather (my Colt has the silver face)
2 Tang or deployant clasp.

I would greatly appreciate any advice. In particular is it worth spending twice as much on a lether strap with deployant clasp?

Cheers,

Gabriel

Hi Gabriel,
I'm sure others will chime in and give you their opinions on your question, but just to let you know, there is a Japanese Breitling website that will allow you to mix and match any strap or bracelet with your watch of choice.

The link is here:

Cheers.

That is fantastic, just what I was after. I've spent ages trawling the net to see the different options, now I can mix and match to my hearts content!

Cheers.

Hello Gabriel,

Have you considered a Diver Pro strap?

I replaced my Pro II bracelet with a Diver Pro after roughly the same time (5 months). It was like having a new time piece!

Hi Gabriel

A brown strap looks great on a silver dial Colt. I'm fairly sure someone here posted some great photos of that combo once, I can't remember who it was though. Maybe try the search function.

If you can stretch to the deployant, I think it's worth it. Perhaps not so much with some other brands, but with Breitling I think it is. A deployant makes your strap last a lot longer than one with a tang buckle. My IWC has a tang buckle and the croco strap is already showing noticeable wear (it's 7 months old and isn't worn every day).

Cheers

My freind has a Colt Quartz II with a silver face. He had a really dark brown strap on it that looked really good.

Now tang or deployent is personal preference. The deployant lasts longer, and in my opinion looks better.

Thanks guys great advice, I'm thinking dark brown now.

Still unsure on whether tang or deployant (probably just that I'm baulking over the price), though given the interchange ability with any future straps I should just go for it.

Brown is a nice choice. Id spring for tang just because im cheap.

If it's any help, I got a dark brown leather strap for my Seawolf. Although it's a black dial, the brown leather looks great.
I have seen many white/silver dials, various models, with the brown leather strap, and it always looks great!
Also find that the tang buckle is perfectly comfortable. I believe the leather strap is about $160.00. The Breitling leather straps are extremely well made and very comfortable, if a bit stiff to start with. They break in real quick, though.
Cheers,
Carl

I vote for brown, and if you can swing it, get the deployant.
This picture (not mine) convinced me to get the silver-faced GMT AND the additional dark brown strap:

Take a look at the ocean racer. It differs from the diver pro greatly. The deployant buckle is also a plus (the ocean racer deployant in particular). Either way, a new strap does make it seem as though you have a new watch.

I stand under correction, but I think the smallest Ocean Racer is 22-20 where as the Colt would need a 20-18.

Go for brown croc on deployant - classy watch needs classy strap - just my opinion........

Well I took all your advice on board and went for a brown leather strap with the tang buckle (I realise deployant would have been better, but at that time I just couldn't spare the extra cash).

I am very happy with the strap and the watch looks excellent. I think I've actually had more commetnts on the watch with the leather strap than the professional II. I'm in no rush to change back, but it's great to know I can and then have a new watch on my wrist!

PS
When I get the chance I'll put a picture up.
