Well, thanks to everybody on this forum, I received my Steelfish 2 days ago. I'm still visiting a friend out of state, so I am not making a formal review at this time.

I did notice that the watch looses 20 seconds every half day. I never wound the watch because it was running when it arrived. I did remember that you can wind the watch manually and so I did. I didn't actually count, but I'm sure I did at least 40 times and it still was winding. Is it supposed to stop?

I will give it a few days to "break-in" and recheck the accuracy. In the mean time, I'm hacking the $2150 Breitling against the $250 iPhone twice daily.

Please give me words of support that this will settle down.......

You can't overwind an automatic as it has a slip clutch so it will keep turning all day without tightening up - that's not an issue.

It will settle down over the first few weeks of ownership, but 20 seconds is rathaer a lot. If it doesn't show signs of improvement then take it to an AD and get it regulated.

When I got my Steelfish the time regulation was VERY erratic to say the least. At one point approximately two months after I bought it it was as much as 45 seconds a day fast. I am very anal about watch accuracy and it was driving me crazy! But I waited it out to see what would happen and now over the last four months it is accurate to -.05 seconds a day. That's just my experience and as Roff said it should settle down. If not, then to the AD for sure.

You can use a ninety-nine cent swap meet clock as well. I can guarantee it will perform better than even the most accurate Breitling.

Anyway, id give it a few weeks at least. See how its going then. If its still off, your AD will take care of it for you.

I used to use the breitling webiste to check time, i would log on one day ,go to work, go to bed and then check the same time the next day and see how it did, when i used to check with the time on my phone i found i was looking every hour which was becoming annoying. not too mention an excuse to continually check out the :lingsrock: website

The problem with that logic is that the Breitling website doesn't have the time on it!

It has a routine that displays the time from your computer.

Well....

It's been a week since I got my Steelfish. After the first 2 days of 20 second losses each 8 hours, I actually wound the watch. It's been pleasingly accurate since. I didn't check it today, but yesterday it was off by 1 second or so after 5 days.

Maybe the watch, although running when I got it was actually at the end of its power reserve?!?!?!

If I understand the instructions and the chronometer certificate correctly, my very watch was actually handled and certified be the independent facility that certifies them. I honestly thought that they were "batch" certified. I never realized they were individually certified. I wonder how much of the cost for the watch goes into this process?

Your watch wasn't certified - the movement was before it ever came close to the watch itself. Every movement is independently tested.

A low power reserve will have some minor impact on accuracy, though not much on a watch with a relatively low power reserve - it's a bigger issues on 7 and 8 day power reserve watches, and it wouldn't be that big a difference.

More likely the watch was still adjusting to running after sitting at the AD untouched for a while.

Hehe. Luckily my employer has a stratum 1 time server synced to an atomic.
