I think I know what the majority will tell you, this being a Breitling forum. Good luck with your decision.

I'm assuming you are leaning towards the rolex because most people know the name and not everyone knows Breitling, It can't be for looks as the explorer II looks like an old style Tag Heuer and the Breitling looks like a gorgeous work of art, i am probably very wrong but that's my humble opinion. :lingsrock:

one more thing, you say you know the explorer is genuine, it is a well faked watch so be certain. and whatever you buy ,put it on the wrist and not on a winder :guns:

:yeahthat I live in China and Rolex fakes are pretty common here. Boxes and certificates are often included with the better fakes as (let's be honest) these are easier to copy than the watch itself.
You mention you know it's real, but assume it's in great condition. This indicates you haven't had it in your hands yet. The absence of the certificate can indicate they bought it online and have the serial nr filed off the watch as well. Or it might indicate a replica/fake.

Be very careful and make sure you don't get duped. This is a big investment, so make sure you get the real thing.
Good luck!
Oh, and I prefer the Montbrillant as it seems a bit more sophisticated, but then again...you can never really go wrong with wearing a Rolex either

The Rolex belongs to a friend. I've owned more Rolex's than Breitlings but the MB has always caught my eye, the Exp II, not so much but $2500 is cheap.
Maybe I'll get both.

Hello,
Let me throw my 2 cents in.....

1) They are both nice watches.
2) What suites your needs best? The Rolex is waterproof and great for traveling - with the 2 time zones.... the Breitling is NOT WATERPROOF but a chronograph..... BOTH VERY DIFFERENT FEATURES!
3) What is trendy - personally I defy trends - being the namesis I am - I do what is not fashionable! Hence the reason I use my HARD CASE Louis Vuitton President in Monogram! (To goes against all trends - hard case is out, LV Monogram is out, ARCHIE42 is OUT!)
At the present time the Rolex Explorer 2 is OUT OF FASHION! It is 1 of the best sports rolex pieces..... The GMT and Submariner line are IN!
The Brietling MB defies trends..... IT IS ALWAYS IN!
4) What sort of answer do you expect here? This is a Brietling forum!
5) I had the same delima a few months ago.... I have a Breitling Navitimer - Old Navitimer 2 - and I was offered a swap for a white faced Explorer II..... I KEPT THE BREITLING!

MY ADVICE - Go with the Rolex! Members here do not need to ask stupid questions to decide the best option.

Coming from you that piece of information is absolutely meaningless, what absolute twadlle! On what piece of information can you prove this point?

The EXP11 is beyond fashion it is the quintisential tool watch that real explorers, not lounge lizards wear. I have a friend who was on an Everest expedition a number of years ago, his role was chief photographer, he was presented with one of these watches by Rolex.

This watch, like the Submariner and Navitimer is timeless and as such is beyond the mere whims of fashion!

That fickle world of fashion that is all about name over substance, items that usually fall into that catagory are those that tend to have multiple images of the said name or logo emblazoned gaudly and crassly.

IAN IAN IAN....

I worked in the luxury watch business a few years back..... I still stay in touch with my contacts.....

I asked my former boss... WHAT ARE THE 2 CHEAPEST ROLEX SPORTS MODELS AT PRESENT....
he said 1) Rolex Submariner NO-DATE model 14060 and 2) Rolex Explorer II Especially white face.

Now.... like me or hate me.....

BUT THIS IS THE TRUTH!

That is one dealer in one country and since when is price an indicator of fashion!
This is an international forum perhaps you forget that, your thoughts and conclusions are worthless to serious debate.

Dont worry, if this question was asked in the rolex forum, his answer would be exactly the opposite (just like he has done in the past).

I think by now Archie42 will never receive a nice reply to his posts as most people on this forum have read his previous posts.
Unlike him most posters here are not concerned with trying to a poser, but love the history, design and workmanship of these watches.
Oh, and I think all the other forum members will agree that the OP didn't "ask a stupid question"; it is merely thought by Archie42 like who likes to feel superior by trying to embarrass others and by buying luxury goods just so he will be liked by his "peers"/"subordinates".

Of course asking advise between 2 brands on one brand's forum will get many biased opinions, but I guess the OP is looking for some Breitling fans who can defend a purchase of the Rolex Explorer.
As previously posted I like the elegance of the Montbrillant more than the rugged simplicity of the Explorer.
If I were you, I'd try to put both on my wrist before deciding. If you can not do that at the seller, visit a Rolex and Breitling AD and try them on. Your initial preference for one watch might turn 180 degrees when you see it on your wrist. It happened to me when I tried the Navi World and Chrono Avenger M1 and eventually went for the Navi World.

Both are classics.

Aesthetically, they are quite different – the MB with it’s chronograph & slide rule is obviously the more technical looking of the two.

It also depends on what you wish to use the watch for – I think most would agree that the Explorer would better tolerate rough treatment. If you’re the type of dude who likes to jump into the ocean from a yacht or go mountain biking without concern for your watch, the Explorer is the go.

Definitely try on both side by side – that’s the only way to be sure which one you really prefer.

What's the better watch for the money in your opinion?

Head - Explorer II. Great price for a classic piece. Good investment.

Heart - Montbrillant. IMHO, more attractive than the rather plain looking Explorer. More fragile.
