What are the main differences in the calibers Breitling uses? After reading watch specs on their website, I'm a bit confused. Thanks |

Difference is the movement... A Breitling Caliber 13 is a Chronograph movement based on the Valjoux 7750.. a Caliber 17 is a Basic movement with Date based on the ETA 2824-2 movement.. A Caliber 23 is a Chronograph Movement based on the Valjoux 7753, which differs from the Caliber 13 in that there is no quickset date, and the subdials are in the 3,6,9 positions rather than the 6,9,12. Which is generally considered better, the 13 or 17? I'm just trying to get a grip on the variations of the Breitlings and relative pricing. Thanks for the info and tolerance of noob questions. |

Its hard to say which is "better"... the 13 will cost more because it is a chronograph movement, so I suppose that means it is better. The more complications the movement has, the more expensive it is and the more money it costs to service it. Both the 13 and 17 are extremely robust and reliable movements and both perform within COSC specs (assuming it is the COSC certified version). |

no.. not necessarily.. the number is just a number.. it has no bearing on the quality or price of the movement. |

If it helps, I have an Avenger Skyland with the 13, and I have never had an automatic watch that keeps better time. Not even 5 seconds out in the two weeks I have had it. I had a SuperOcean for 10 years, which always seemed to gain time no matter what I did. It had the 17 movement. I now have a Steelfish with the 17 movement, which is better than the SuperOcean but still not as accurate as the Skyland 13. Bear in mind, these are just my personal experiences and observations. That's quartz accuracy,perfect!!!!Unfortunately,can't say the same for my 6weeks old Skyland,it gains 3sec dailly from the beginning.But still within the limits of COSC....you re a lucky man

I wasn't even going to post that comment about how well it keeps the time, because I really did not think anyone would believe me. I did check again tonight, after about 5 days, and we are up to almost 10 seconds fast, which is still remarkable over that period of time. I know that there are variations within the same movement from watch to watch, this time I got lucky, I guess. Cheers, Carl |
