My Cosmonaute had to go to the Breitling hospital the other day - because I lost a pusher - no idea how, it was just missing when I took it off one evening.

The AD is a repair centre but didn't have the part in their database for ordering - a bad sign as that means that it has to go to Breitling. I was fully expecting a ridiculous quote of $500+ for a service and pusher, but lo and behold, I got the quote and Breitling are not insisting on a full service at the same time. I was pleasantly surprised.





For about 1 second.







Then thay told me how much a pusher and gasket would be. Remember that this is only steel.

That is ridiculous, bordering on criminal. I'd love to see an itemization of the repair (parts vs. labor).

I guess it's like buying a beer at the ball park -- where else you gonna go? -- but it doesn't mean you have to like it.

That's the key issue. Captive audience and a total monopoly of supply.

$150 for a pushpiece IS a lot, but I think the £30 (I think) for a titanium screw (for a bracelet or rider tab) that one of the guys here paid really takes some beating! :shock:

If you think about it though it makes sense. The production costs is determined by how many they produce. I could see that if they have to produce more without selling an entire watch it would change the production costs and thereby increase the market price. Not to mention it is a luxury item.

You're correct but they're not going to set up the production line to make one pusher for Roff. I believe the Cosmo pushers are the same as for the Navi and so they will be making, say, 5,000/month. The marginal cost for the 5001th piece is just a few cents which goes into the box to be used either on a new watch or, as in this case, after sales.

Dick Turpin is alive and well and living in Switzerland. :(

The really sad part is that somewhere in this world, in the back room of some old crotchety watchmaker, there lies that pusher amongst 100's of other parts, and he would probably charge you $5 for it. Now try to find him.

Its a bummer to pay $150, but in the words of my departed Mother the optomist, "it could be worse".

i killed the case back of a colt watch a few months back (won't say how, but i was bored) anyway contacted breitling uk for a price and could i have the serial number etched into this one, i was told £30 for the caseback and maybe a charge for fitting, does that sound good or ominous? :poke:

Wow it must really be hard for you guy's dealing with AD's all the time, that's the one good thing about living in NYC everything is at your finger tips and so many places to choose from. The 47th. jewelry exchange has thousands of stores with thousands of pieces for any watch in production. You name it they have it. Let us know how it works out Roff good luck.

I'm not dependent on ADs. If this were a cheaper watch I would do the work myself with a generic pusher and gasket.

However I recognise the limitations of my ability, and I'm not going to risk a relatively rare Special Edition to my own incompetence. For a similar reason, I'm not prepared to lower the value of the watch by using non Breitling pieces, and risking it with someone who just sees it as one of 30 - 40 watches they'll deal with in any week.

I may think the cost is exorbitant, but the cost of getting it done elsewhere for $30 might be a heck of a lot more.

True, and Breitling took an advantage from that to rip you off.

Also true.

But give it another 10 (or 20) years and I'll feel confident enough in my abilities to do these things myself on Breitlings.
