Post subject:  Limits on the FULL LING?
Perish the thought! :o

There seems to be a variance of opinion on just how full is too full of a ling. I've seen it myself - of about five Super Avenger sightings "in the wild," two looked very odd. Was it the wrist size? One guy was of a rather slight build but his SA looked good. Another guy was average, but it just looked wrong. And I couldn't figure out what exactly made it so wrong.

Having wrists only slightly over 6.5 inches, the size of the SA makes me skittish. Yet it is the one I keep going back to stare at. It can't be that much larger than the Eco-Zilla, right?! I took a close look at one during a recent visit to an AD, and couldn't really decide on whether it was too large. If only I could have a day with it to really get a feel for the size ... :D

I know several people have posted that they're pulling off the SA with similarly sized wrists. What is your opinion on what makes it work or not? Do you have any pictures you'd share of yourself wearing it "in the wild" that would help me decide?

Or even better ... just talk me out of it!! Then I can happily rest until the day Breitling announces a white dial Skyland.

I am in the same situation as you. I really like the Super Avenger and am hugely tempted to buy one, on the other hand (excuse the pun) I also really like the Skyland.

acceldebt made a good point about these "full lings". He said that the SA will seem too big for about 2 hours and then it will start to seem normal and I tend to agree. My Steelfish is 44 mm in diameter and when I first wore it, the thing felt HUGE but now I am used to it and wouldnt dream of getting a watch that is any smaller.

When I tried the SA on at the AD it also seemed a bit too big but I think I could definately get used to it. My suggestion would be to try it on and perhaps take a pic of it on your wrist. Also, the white dial makes it look like a wall clock on your wrist so perhaps go for a black or blue dial, you will have the full impact of the watch but it wont look overly big. If you like the white dial why not look at the Steelfish with the white dial (I am not biased or anything... :-)

I wear an SA daily, im a short d00d, but acceldebt is right, it seems big at first. When I went to go purchase the SA from the AD in the display window it seemed huge, but then I purchased it and wore it for about 2 weeks and it seems normal on my wrist now. Sure when I go out it gets alot of attention, but to me personally it seems normal.

This all keeps going back to the same phenomenon. Once you get the SA and wear it for a while you will NO LONGER feel that it is too big. I went through the same deal with the Bentley GT at 44.8 MM. I was moving up to that from an older 39 MM Chronomat so it looked HUGE for a while and was very satisfying. After re-visiting the dealer and trying on the real Bentley a few more times I just had to have one and got one. It only takes a very short period of time to get used to the Full Ling, as a matter of fact I'm looking forward to see Breitling come out with something LARGER !

Trust me, it looks big at first, but you'll think it's not big enough after wearing it a few months!

I've had more compliments with my Navi-World (It's only 46mm) than any of my other timepieces. I have 7.5 inch wrists, and now I think anything less looks too small!

Go with the FULL LING, you won't be disappointed.

Just to throw a slightly differing opinion in on this one, even though I own an Navi World (46mm) and a Steelfish (44mm), I still personally think the SA is a step too far. To my eye there is just far too much metal going on and I feel it looks a little clumsy. (I apologise to all you SA owners out there, but this is just my opinion).

I appreciate that you can get used to "the big stuff" after a few hours, but my own rule of thumb is that I have to feel happy with it after 10 mins in the shop. For example the other week I tried on a Monbrillant Legende (just like Admin's in fact) and for a few mins the lugs felt very wide on my wrist, but after another few mins it felt great. By contrast the SA just felt all wrong to me right from the outset, and it's never got any better.

To me it really sounds like you (bgsl) are still not 100% convinced by the SA either, so my advice would be to take your time at your AD, and think long and hard before parting with your hard-earned. (And yeah, I think the Skyland is a much nicer bet...... but that's just MHO!)

My first and only B so far is an SA and I love it. I absolutely admit that I am attracted to the big watches. I just love the feel of a big, heavy watch. It seems to give me a feeling of value. I know that is not true and there are many more B's that cost much more. I just love it!!! I think you need to decide what kind of watch you really want. Are you like me and attracted to the big ones? I am trying to decide on my next and I think only the 6.75 is larger than what I have now. What a dilemma! Just go with what you like, feel, and love. You know what opinions are like.....and we all have one. :twisted:

My next watch will be at least 46mm in diameter. To be honest, I really like thick watches, thats why I was initially attracted to the Seawolf (18mm!!), the titanium is what put me off in the end. I need to feel the watch on my wrist. At thick watch that stands up quite a bit off my wrist is what I like a lot.

Just as a matter of interest, out of all the manufacturers, does anybody know what the biggest watch that is currently being made is? I am sure that there are bigger watches than the SA out there..

Also, how big is too big.. 55, 60mm?

The largest on I've seen so far, that is commercially made, is a Zeno. My Breitling AD also sell that brand. The have several large/oversized models, the largest is their Super Oversized, diameter 55.5 mm with an ETA 2824 movement.

Personally, I think they look a bit boring - and way too big in the Super Oversized models. Maybe if I start to wear my watches at my biceps... :)

Confession: I am a Big Watch Addict. That's why I was looking at the SA, naturally! I've also been looking for a white dial. That supposedly makes the SA look monstrously huge, though. Small wrists are a curse :cry:

The Navi World would definitely fit the bill, and wouldn't be quite so large. (Very nice pic, Flynbyu!) But any watch I wear is definitely going to take some abuse. I'm not sure how the Worlds would handle water, too. The Avengers seem to be a little more tank-like, and not just in appearance.

In any case, I know I would get used to wearing the SA. After all, it'll just be one more in a line of large watches for me. I just don't want to blow a lot of money on one and then end up looking like a tool. Or worse, like a kid wearing dad's watch! But honestly, if I see some more in person on small-wristed people and it looks OK, I know my resistance will be broken.
