I love those old Mercs.....

The negativity from this site was a real "turn off to me about the breitling brand"

I've got something nice to say Archie.

You said it all in your first post.........this is one of the only forums not to ban you.

Do they like you over on the Patek forum??
Do you have lots of new friends there?
Are they all shouting "all hail the great Archie?"

Link us to a forum where you haven't been banned and where you are considered a valuable good member... I'd love to read it.

Hello,
As some of you may know.... this is my 3rd marriage.

The present Mrs. Archie is the best of the lot.

She is a wonderful woman.

She has lead an amazing life (in line with Archie's high expectations). She was originally a Registered Nurse in Japan, then a Diving Instructor in Cairns on the Great Barrier Reef, then she worked as a Medical Translator, then as a Wine Consultant for DFO and finally as an IT professional for IBM. Mrs Archie is currently working as a specialist Registered Nurse.

And she cheats on you.

lol

Whoa!

Hang on a second.

This is my first post on this site, however I have been lurking for a few weeks now while I wait for my first Brietling to arrive.
It saddens me that my first post here has to be in the thread, however having just read it from start to finish I am appalled.

Does Archie come across as a narcisistic tool? An emaphatic YES
Is a certain level of flaming warranted? Most probably yes.
Should this sort of flaming ever, EVER, involve personal insults aimed at one's children, wife or family in general? NEVER

I like to think that the sort of people who appreciate the fine skill and engineering involved in the creation of a fine watch would have a certian level of maturity (and no, I don't mean age, I mean maturity, and there is a VERY big difference). If you think Archie's shallow interpretation of the worth of a finely engineered timepiece misses the point entirely, I previously would have assumed that you fall into the "mature" category by default. I now see I was mistaken.

Again I am sorry that this has been my introduction to the forums, and I do not wish to step on too many toes on my first day, so to speak, however I tend to subscribe to a very apt saying:

"Never argue with a fool, they will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience"

I beleive this has happened in this thread, and as somewhat of an outsider I think this thread should be buried where no prospective forum member can see it lest it gives the wrong impression of what I see as an otherwise great forum.

Regards,

Zaphius

This thread, like all of Archie's threads, take the forum to places it does not go any other time. Lurk and learn or post and partake. Either way, understand that any thread with Archie42 as the OP, or sometimes even a contributor, is likely to have some of the above in it.
He is excellent at eliciting a response.
Welcome, BTW.

Regards,

Zaphius

To a considerable extent, Zaphius, I entirely agree with you on a personal level, and shortly after this thread went in the direction it did I ran another thread commenting on the level of vitriol at the time - viewtopic.php?f=10&t=13703

However from a moderator's perspective, other than registering my own thoughts (as shown on the above link), it poses something of a problem. Freedom of opinion and speech has always been something of a corner stone here, and we try not to moderate people's comments just because we don't agree with soemthing. So just because Archie brings out the worst in some people, it wasn't a reason for us to bury the thread or lock it at the time..... although havong said that I am going to lock it now as I think this thread has run it's course (and then some) and I think we don't need to open old sores!

However (and without going over old ground) lets just say that I fully agree that we all need to keep things on a civil and adult basis and not degenerate into person attacks on peoples weight, or family, or in fact ANYTHING personal.

Zaphius - don't let this particularly dark point in BreitlingSource's history put you off. Hope you stay around and contribute.
