Not sure I understand the question.

If you donate via Paypal then admin will update your status to Contributing Member - that's all.

I disagree. I applaud Admin for his work and attitude toward the forum. I am, by all means, in favor of supporting him in whatever fashion he chooses, for it does take time, effort and money to keep one of these things going. However, IMHO a forum such as this should be able to survive financially on vendor support via ads or links. Most Internet forums are able to survive that way. I have also participated in forums such as Rennlist, which is a Porsche forum, and within that environment, which requires a $20(ish) annual membership, not only are the forum owners making a tremendous amount of money, but there is a definite caste structure there between members and non-members (who may read and post but cannot attach pictures or post items for sale and some other limitations). Non-members are occasionally admonished for not "voluntarily" contributing. :guns: It makes for a less-than-pleasant environment and tends to give an elitist image to the place. Shocking, isn't it? Porsche owners being elitist?

But the real thing is this: forums like this stay active and alive and interesting by the fact that they are free and open to anyone, world-wide. I would never have joined this if it required a fee. I feel that I contribute as much as I take away (I hope others agree with this  ). If Admin needs or wants more financial support, then I'm sure that there are enough people (myself included) who will contribute to keep this forum running. But let's not force anyone to do anything more than to be polite and respectful, as most appear to be.

Michael

Just to provide some clarity for members who are new since this started......

Admin had to be pretty much forced into accepting donations. There is no requirement for anyone to contribute, and I hope that no one feels that a supporter is treated any differently than anyone else.

This topic is deliberately not a sticky, and the link to donate has to be sought out, it isn't prominently displayed on the homepage.

People are free to donate as much or as little as they wish as often as they wish and admin will gratefully accept the donation, but he will definitely not solicit them.

Additionally, the ad revenue here is restricted by the attempt to reduce fake sites. We have had many discussions about some of the sites that the Google ads send, but if anyone tells admin about a fake site being promoted he gets it removed immediately.

There is no suggestion that the site will go away if people don't contribute, and I am sure that I speak fro admin and Driver8 when I say that the idea of a 'membership fee' is not something that we would entertain.

In the meantime, people should feel free to do whatever they feel comfortable with and there should never be any discrimination against anyone for this or any other reason.

I totally agree with Roff on this, and he is absolutely correct when he said that Admin had to be dragged kicking and screaming to set up the ability to receive donations in the first place. And he only did so after numerous requests from members that they WANTED to donate.

There is absolutely ZERO obligation to have to donate, and whether you do or don't has absolutely ZERO impact on how you are treated here.

Have you even bothered to read this thread or just ASSUMED from MY statement

As explained due to you not reading this thread "Members Choose to contribute to this site" Admin did not want paying in any way shape or form, we choose to donate to help out a little. If you do not wish to that is fine but for people who do this thread is a reminder. Can you show me ANYWHERE where I have FORCED any member to contribute? If you can I will backtrack and apologise to you

Kindest of Regards (as manners cost nothing)

Martin

I must say that it is true you don't see any advertisements or forced donations required to be a member of this site. I actually had to search out this topic a while back to learn how to donate on my own. I as well as many others it looks like felt it was something they wanted to do in order to help keep a great site going. By the way if the admin does make some money in the end then that is a good thing in my opinion... Thats just my way of thinking though. I figure it this way. I joined this site and was welcomed and helped in replica identification by many members. After that I have been hanging around and enjoying the threads and awsome pictures. If some extra money gets the admin some extras and makes him happy then I am smiling for him. Like I said I wasn't forced to donate and I feel great about doing it. It is great that you don't have to donate and I don't feel I am any better than someone that doesn't. It just felt right to me thats all. Anyway Thanks to everyone out there Contributer by a dollar ammount or not for helping to make this site a great place to hang out and take your mind off of the everday bull. Thats just my 2 cents whatever it is worth.
