Well, maybe they're trying to convey the box is a throwaway item with no value. They'd thereby imply that there isn't any use for the box once you'd have left the shop. In other words a Breitling is a consumer item that is meant to be consumed and not preciously kept/eventually resold... Welcome to the Tagization of Breitling... I'm told they're planing on releasing a mobile phone shortly ;)

As we've previously said in this thread, the TAG packaging is now quite a bit nicer than Breitling's.

I personally don't give a damn about the box presentation, as I don't wear the box. I'd much prefer Breitling use the money they saved on the boxes to bringing back the classic Breitling styling on their watches.

I rather think it's being spent on the wellbeing (expensive dinners, cars, pools) of the financially interested... Not sure you pay any less for a watch in the cardboard cheapo crapo box...

Don't they have that horrid cylindrical thing with the zipper around it anymore?

I don't even know what that is. I got my Link almost six years ago, and it came in a nice presentation box, inside a basic, but nice, outer box. Last I saw, that's still the standard box. The Grand Carrera line is a step up from that; the outer box is roughly the same, but the presentation box is polished wood, and really very nice. Before Breitling's latest change, I would have said Breitling's was nicer than TAG's standard, but not as nice as the Grand Carrera packaging. Now, Breitling's isn't even as nice as TAG's basic packaging.

I'm with dlNYC in that I don't really care, and if the change was accompanied either by a drop in pricing, or better designs, I would consider it a worthy tradeoff. (Although why cheaper packaging would correlate to better designs, I don't know.) As it stands, though, it's just adding insult to injury: prices are higher than ever, despite a relative drop in the Swiss Franc, and...well, we know what the designs are doing.

I'm going to encase my wallet within a condom to combat
the rampant rapes & violations perpetrated by all sources.

The riveted cardboard box is OK but the new watch pillow is HUGE. Unless you have a big wrist, the watch won't fit well on it when adjusted properly. Check out the difference between the one that came with my Cockpit and the one that came with my GMT 44...

I feel like my links are going to snap from the expanding pressure of the new pillow.

I found a solution--I have it strapped to a pillow that came with my Rolex Submariner. Perfect fit. I'm sorry, for a watch that retails for $8,870 this is just unacceptable. Rolex has a nicer presentation.

Great! Now I have to buy a Submariner just so I can use the pillow! :)

Suggestion... Just buy a submariner... It comes in a proper box too. ;)

I think it's a psychology thing, to scare buyers with cheap packaging to make the watch seem better than expected. My first Breitling (and first seen in person) was a Blackbird, and when I seen that bakelite box I expected something great, and it was, and I was happy. But now that so many new designs are terrible you can't have someone getting excited about the box because 60% of the time they'll be crushed seeing the watch.

PS: I actually got one today. Yeah it sucks, but my watch had a much nicer bezel protector than I had seen before. yip-pe

I do like my watch so all is forgiven. :lingsrock:

Most marketing studies indicate just the opposite. The better the packaging, the more consumers will perceive of the product as being better.

Do you think Breitling follow market studies, and if they do, should they continue? :)

If they don't already know I'll be horribly disfigured that is... ;)
