Ok you are right the more i think about it and i have seen some pictures of the boxes from other swiss luxury companies and the breitling box is not so hot. So what are we going to do about it besides bitching to each other here? How about we start a write in campaign and give it to BUSA. We have a ton of users on this site and other sites that we could coordinate with. While I have not finished posting my final story on my watch, I blasted an email to BUSA about my dissatisfaction on the quality of the product and the service i received. Well they answered with a written letter and a duffel bag. Sure I will be advertising for Breitling when I carry the bag around, but they listened and responded so they are listening. As for the quality of the service I received, my AD is going direct to BUSA management because this is one of his pet peeves and he feels like he lost sales on future watches I might have bought. So we will see.

So lets tell BUSA how we feel about their boxes. A professional but tasteful email from those who are interested noting how we feel about the degradation of the brand because of the lower quality box they have decided to use? Have a relationship with a particular AD? get the AD to run our unhappiness up the ranks. They might just listen as they should from their best customers. Just my 2 cents.

Oh I'm feeling just a tad devilish. This overly long thread needs a 90 degree turn and some lighter fluid. Bottom line - Breitling really does not care what their "fans" think. It is not how they do business.

And Breitling is very aware of our concerns with the box, the styles, the fonts, the colors, etc... They have read every word of it right here on this site. Suits and geeks company men monitor everything we post here - dat's a fact!

BUSA doesn't have boxes, Breitling does. BUSA just passes them along.

That's the main difference between Breitling and BUSA:

Breitling read and ignore
BUSA read and send secret shoppers to all ADs mentioned

I think I am going to do the same thing as my last experience was not great. What is the email you sent to?

Fantastic thread this.

I bought a used SOH46 last Christmas and the inner travel case was missing from the Bakelite box. The watch was bought on the understanding that the missing case would be provided. After some trying to get the correct travel case the AD gave me a new style box.

The travel case in the latest one is much better. The previous one was not sturdy enough for travel use. This one looks like it might be, although I'll probably stil use the service cases for travelling.

Other than that, I agree the latest box is awful. Not what a high end watch should be presented in. As enough people have said, this is not a mass market product.... at least to us, if you look at Breitling's production numbers they may argue that. But it is still a premium product.

My boxes also just sit in a cupboard, but would I buy a watch without a full box and paper set... only if it was very cheap and I'd satisfied myself of provinance.

There may be one other driver for this that has been touched on, environmental costs. At least in the EU manufacturers (above a certain turnover / total packaging weight), and the full packaging supply chain, take what is called a Producer Responsibility for product packaging and effectively pay a tax on the weight of product packaging used. That is what is driving most of the "20% less packaging" ads we see today. The corporate world is generally more concerned with product image than a bit of rainforrest, but is occasionally prepared to sacrifice product image a bit when it carries a tax burden. Not sure if that influenced the decision, but it could have.

Thanks for the info, I just revived a email today from the southeastern states account executive. He apologized for the situation and is sending me a bag and a book safe.

Some say - " What's the problem, it will only sit in the robe at the back room?"
I'd rather have a nice Bakelite box sitting in the robe at the back of my room than something that could be confused for Mrs. Wessa's shoebox.
