Posting here is fun, more so than on other forums that have no sense of humour.
Personally I'm much happier taking the piss out of myself than others who may not fully understand the inuendo (quite happy to take the Micky out of Americans and guys that like diamonds on thier girly watches though).

I have posted after a drink or three before, and rest assured that I will again and that I love you all (apart from as mentioned above).

Really not caring about my OP anymore.

Giz a kiss

As an American I'm curious as to where the hell did phrase stems from? I swear, UK slang makes absolutely no sense, sometimes I think you guys make it up as you go along just to screw with us.

And a metal strap makes no sense, I don't care what time warp you just came through.

Considering I don't even know if there is such a thing as a "watch specialized dictionary" I can't help you. If you enjoy calling it a metal strap or a leather bracelet, go for it.

If We in the UK can make up our own slang (Best Adam it, no one else in the world does that do they...) then I recon CountD can call it what he wants.

He's wrong, however it is I understand his 'unalianablllee' rite (sounds a bit pervy but another country made it up ;_)

So do all dictionary entries need to define both what something is and what something isnt? Would the entry for "tree" look something like this in your ideal world?

tree   /tri/ Soun, verb, treed, tree·ing.
–noun
1. a plant having a permanently woody main stem or trunk, ordinarily growing to a considerable height, and usually developing branches at some distance from the ground.
2. Not a duck.
3. Not an aadvark.
4. Not a pebble.
.
.
onto infinity?

Oye! You can't just call things what you want. There are things called nouns, and while there is some ambiguity as to their use, the case of "bracelet" and "strap" in the WIS world is not one of them.

For some reason I find aardvark a funny word. I have no idea why.

Thanks, that phrase actually makes sense to me now. Dow they have an English to English dictionary? I wonder if the definitions of bracelet and strap would be in there.

Not directly relevant (but I think I can be forgiven seeing where this thread has meandered), but I am reminded of this thread from some time ago - viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1927

Very funny, but there's no way I'm watching soccer :poke: Dudes running around a field in too small shorts for three hours to maybe score 1 goal a game just doesn't do it for me. I'll stick with the "girly" American football, but I will give you the World Series name, never made sense to me when I was a kid. I guess the one Canadian team gives us some international flavour (see what I did there?)

""Leave the gun, take the cannoli."

Hah Hah,

That's my neck of the woods. This has turned into a 5 page thread and as always what I said was the right DEAL from the beginning. I'll honor what another poster asked for and will post a weekly LING MAN update with facts, quotes and everything else that is needed for all of you AMATEUR Ling boy's out there. The "veterans" will all just sit back and laugh.

The only difference between me and some of the other veterans is they don't have any CANNOLI'S, (I really got a BANG out of that one, and so did the guy's that didn't get to have anymore CANNOLI'S) ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS !.

Ian beat me to it. It makes no sense to insist on a dictionary entry that lists everything a word isn't. I already provided you with a working glossary of watch terms. At this point, you're being obstinate. You've been proven incorrect. Deal with it. There's no shame in being wrong. You bring more embarrassment on yourself by belaboring the issue.

WatchFred, who loves your comments & remembers them well .....

Thank you, sir, although I fail to see anything I've written in this thread that is so eloquent as to be from the New Yorker.

I like the original suggestion, which is that the updates be on Friday nights. Friday night alone, sitting next to a single-bulb lamp with a bottle of Jack Daniels, a full ashtray, a Full Ling, and Ling Man getting inside your brain...preferably with a few tasty licks from his ax. Let's see the New Yorker top that.
