The only place I would want to be treated differently, due to the watch on my wrist, is when visiting an AD (any brand).

They will know that you're serious and will give you the time to try on other pieces, ask questions and give brochures etc without any hassle.

That said I wouldn't expect them to be fawning etc - just polite. Lets face it, with a good employee discount they could wear the same watch too!

I've had the odd glance when out eating and shopping but really not noticed being treated that much better generally.

Most people can't understand why any one would spend so much on a watch and are even more amazed when they find out you have several!

I've talked to a lot of people who don't know anything about watches, but they know ROLEX. Why, because it's a ROLEX.

Same with Bose speakers, BMWs, and a host of other brands. Doesn't mean the praise is undeserved (well, maybe not with Bose lol), but it would be nice if people actually understood what they were looking at.

I don't think I run into very many people that recognize a Breitling.

It's the same here. Most people only know a couple of watch brands besides Casio, Swatch or Citizen, and that usually is Rolex and two or three more. Still, I've had people notice my Ling and/or compliment it, even when they don't know the brand. Funny thing is, they have made people change their attitude towards me positively. Probably because as I've mentioned before, I usually dress like some skater kid and have long hair and ink.

... And nobody has ever even noticed my TAG. :nana:

Recognizing four of five brands and appreciating them for what they are is far above average.

I wore my Rolex Sea-dweller into a local AD yesterday (along with a tank top, old jeans, and flip flops.)

When I opened the door the lady barely looked up at me and then turned away and went back to her phone conversation. When she saw my watch as I rounded the counter, she quickly hung up the phone and said "OH MYYYYY GOOOODNESSSSS! WHAT A BEAUUUUTIFULLLLL WATCH! A ROLEX! I'VE NEVER SEEN A WOMAN WEAR THAT BEFORE! WOOOOOW! IT LOOOOOKS SOOOOO GOOD ON YOU!"

Ummm.... BARF! :tmi:

I was in an AD the other day that sells amongst others brands Rolex and Patek, I asked him if they were suffering in the economy and he said Vancouver was one of the best places to be as a high end watch seller as a great many here are the super rich who can afford to sneeze and lose $10,000,000! I must admit looking at the number of Bentley's and Ferraris in this city I do not think he was wide of the mark!

yeah, Vancouver is nuts this way... starting to get warm out now too. Lot's of Ferraris and Lambos out this weekend. I love parking my relative POS between a maserati and a DB9 at my building... i assume their lookin at my car waiting for the day when i ding theirs... or, they are just extra rich and couldnt care less about a ding (like i would, even on my piece of crap).

Anyway, definitely never been treated differently anywhere except an AD, and i only say that because of my perception, can't say for sure... but when i go in without a watch i feel like they dont even talk to me... it doesnt need to be said how bad that can be for business.

Whahaha that same thing happened to me when i walked into my local AD. I had the feeling the lady's in the store didn't want to help me until the boss came out of his office and saw i was in the store and he remembered me from buying a watch from him. i think it has something to do with the way i look. Im 22 i have a light tinted skin and i wear a Fitted baseball cap, a hoody, jeans and a pair of Air Jordan's on my feet. They think im gonna rob them or something. Funny part is that after they saw that the boss was real cool with me, they really wanted to help me reall badd!!whahah

I believe Roff said it best: "My watches are for me, no one else" .

Can't say I've noticed being treated differently. I've noticed people staring at it when we're having a conversation. But, nope, not treated any different. That's the way I like it.

WHEN ARE PEOPLE GOING TO LEARN????

You can not judge a person by the WATCH they wear, the CAR they drive, the BRIEFCASE they carry......

Just look at ARCHIE42 - he has a quarter of million dollars of luxury sh_t and nobody wants to know him.....
He know the difference between Vuitton and Goyard..... Patek and VC...... Rolex president and AP Royal Oak......

It just shows that having money, knowing about extremely expensive things DOES NOT MEAN THE GUY IS NICE/INTELLIGENT or a decent human being.......

It kind of defies all the lies marketing has tried to tell us.....

archie, i am pretty sure no one cares if you have 50 million dollars worth of second hand crap. but your right that what you have or how much money you have doesnt make you a good person.

Ok I have to wade in here, I have not written in a while....read this post yesterday i think. What happened few hours ago i thought i should share with you all....

I have a wide collection of watches, (list posted somewhere with pics i think) My pride is my Patek... which is what i am wearing today in a meeting in Paris.

Come across a VP of a company that we might consider doing buisness with long story short he looks at my Patek and tells me he loves watches, and shows me his all gold rolex (my only gold watch that i own). He then proceeds to tell me that he think someone with my ''image'' will be better suited to wear his type of rolex...

He meant it very sincerly... I am still unclear to be offended or just laugh?....

Rolex do have a bad rep... as most of these days i am in paris... I find here... especially in restaurants near sureness, I get very very good service... something i did not get in past when I was not wearing a watch...!! Yes its all in the mind... but i have been furtunate enough to have been brough around fine watches all my life... so i guess i am at home wearing 'luxury' watches....

Anyway... best when I was young... (i am 29 now...) so whne i was 21 or so wearing my dads... rolex... or Patek... made me feel great... and yes got me my fair share of attaention... from the fairer sex... it not bad... as long as you know people are not going after you its the watch.. or the car or whatever...image you are giving out...Recognize and learn to use this....and never ever believe in your own hype...

Back home in uk... very few people will notice either my patex or ling... Sorry my my numerous typos french keyboards take long time to get used to....

Cheers

M

Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, things are a bit different. You can't judge a book by it's cover at all. A person could be the founder of a huge company and be wearing jeans and a t-shirt. I've seen Sergey Brin wearing a cheap heart rate monitor watch and sweats.

Watch dealers, luxury car dealers, etc have all learned this. They seem smart enough not to judge by superficial signs.
