Bakelite, as I discussed in my original post.

I don't know what Bakelite is though...it makes me think of baking low calorie cookies.

Fantastic read, well written (as usual) agree with much of it. A lot I just don't have the historical knowledge as I am a bit new to the watch scene, but certain you are on the mark there as well. At any rate congrats on 25,000 or condolences on consumed time pick either as you see fit. I know personally you have been a huge help to me in my most recent obsession so thanks you very much for that!

Thank you...so I am guessing that the outer box is what is bakelite and the inner is just another type of plastic?

The inner box is the Bakelite bit. The outer box is cardboard. On the very latest ones all you get is a cardboard box.

well, that thread went a bit off topic, Roff
the "just another type of plastic" thing is the bakelite box, though apparently uncool.

Polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride lo-cal cookies might be a winner ?

Just like corn flakes, cardboard on the outside and tastes like cardboard on the inside.
The big question however is what has more nutritional value, the cardboard box or the corn flakes.

And without any help from the usual culprits

I must admit when I wrote that tome I never expected the item of major discussion to be bakelite!

This reminds me when I used to have an eBay store and a couple brought this old broken-down bakelite radio for me to sell. Within an hour of the auction launch, I received numerous messages saying the radio was not bakealite, but instead catalin, and apparently much Much MUCH more expensive

(sorry for the thread hijack Roff )

Want me to bring it back on topic and question your motives and criticize your views again? Nah....I've matured since 10k...well not really but at least I'm more well behaved now.

Is Breitling experimenting with new case materials? Ceramic or carbon fiber? As much as I want to see the progression of the 01 movement, I really want to see a new case introduced....and I'd still love to see a SOHC with a ceramic bezel and an inhouse movement.
