I disagree with those who believe that only a very small percentage of the population will realize the SA on this teacher’s wrist as a pricier watch: remember, this is the massive SA we’re talking about. A person doesn't need to be an SA or Breitling expert, nor even a watch enthusiast, to have a big shiny SA catch their eye. If we were talking about a Navitimer 1461 LE then it would be a lot more subtle due to it’s size and colour even though it’s almost 2x the price. In that comparison I would bet that 10x more people would notice the SA than the Navi LE.

Now do I think he should get it? Sure, why not. And if he is asked about it and feels uncomfortable just act humble and state that this is just a mid-tier Breitling and he can’t afford a fancy one. This is exactly what I do as my SA often brings questions or comments, but my Navi 1461 only does from my close friends who know about watches.

I just love when people feel the need to express their opinions over and over and over again and attempt to dominate threads.

To the OP, buy the watch you like and don't give a f*uck what any of us or any one else thinks.

I didn't see that happen here. What is happening is different people keep expressing the same basic opinions over and over - as you just did.

On that note, I will echo Roff's opinion: I certainly hope the OP doesn't feel the need to keep his mouth shut in his own thread, or anywhere else on this board.

I'm a Christian minister and i have to be pretty careful. People can assume that i'm greedy or worldly. Thankfully watches are much less noticeable than a car (altho with an SA its a toss up!) and i usually explain that i buy my watches second hand and save for them very slowly.

At the risk of copping a pounding, i actually do think there's an ethical dilemma with spending as much money as we do on watches. So many of the world's people live in utter poverty and we could use that money to alleviate their suffering. It's not that buying watches is wrong (far from it!), but i think each of us needs to figure out for ourselves how we enjoy the good things we've got without becoming cold hearted and self absorbed. Just my 2 cents.

I think you have to ask yourself what brand of watch would Jesus wear?
Then again maybe God does wear a Breitling!!

I work for the government in vehicle inforcement (not police) and wear my Yellow Ti Seawolf all day everyday.
Its still a big watch but not being polished and on an ocean racer its a bit more subtle.
Wear it ,thats what watches are for. :lingsrock:

While we are on this, how does one classified which Ling is high, mid, entry level models? Just curious if there's any official or even unofficial rankings out there.

Based on the price range I would say anything under $4/5k is entry, $4/5-8/9k is mid and $8/9+ is high. I guess levels could be a bit higher as there are many higher priced Breitlings but they aren't best sellers and isn't where Breitling competes because at a certain point I would think the consumer looks at better brands.

I live in Vancouver BC Canada the teachers here are ready to go on strike and work to rule by limiting what they teach kids until they get a fat raise. Stating that they are the second lowest paid teachers in Canada . The average wage they make is $ 475.00 per day with many making far more plus great benefits like medical insurance and dental and optical coverage and a pension for a 35 hour week . I'm just surprised their not all wearing Patek Philippe watches. Ok you may think I'm a dick I don't care ,I'm a dick with an opinion about how my tax dollars are spent. :nana:

So, um, are you in favor of teachers wearing flashy watches, or not?

I could care less what they wear as long as they do a great job teaching the kids.

Agreed. The actions of their union is pathetic.

It used to be easy - there were ranges increasing in level of refinement and typically price. Entry was the Aeromarine Range, mid the Windrider range, high the Navitimer range. The Professional -mostly superquartz, function oriented, and Bentley - which went from around $7k to over $10k, ranges sort of stood on their own.

As pkeung indicated, now it is mainly a price issue, but I would look at it a bit differently (leaving gold out of the equation and still leaving aside the "special case" Professional and Bentley models) - non-in-house movements, three hand models or any quartz models - entry; - non-in-house chronograph models - mid range; in-house movement models and higher complications ETA movements (like 1461 -4 year calendar models still based on ETA movements) - higher end. That seems to be how Breitling has set it up, intentionally or not.
