Well there's two parties here. I suspect the dealer just wasn't taking you seriously. He'd at least have expected you to know the current offerings from Breitling before you visited the shop and had model names to inquire about.
For example I didn't even plan my last trip to a dealer, if was an off the cuff thing and I knew the models I was interested in. I had questions and concerns which could all be answered. I left knowing exactly which model would be perfect for me (and my wife - very important!). It was an independent dealer and yes I probably knew more about their watches than them.
I find this to be the case quite often, especially where several brands are stocked. I find most of the salespeople very helpful but not especially well informed preferring to take my phone number to contact me when they have more information. They have some knowledge of stocked items but know little of other styles and options. I was greatly amused when I took my Chrono Avenger in for an overhaul recently. The salesperson said 'Well it'll be about £400 i'm afraid'. I said 'That's ok what sort of a watch would I get for that money anyway'. (meaning I'd rather spend that on my Chrono than buy something else for the cost of the overhaul). She took me at my word and immediately started pointing out other lesser brands that I might like to consider! That said I always get offered a coffee and a comfy seat.
