What if it's leap year? Can I wind it backwards if it's leap year? What about solar eclipses? Is it OK to use the quick set date during solar eclispes? I had a bad day yesterday. Should I risk winding backwards while having a bad day?

My favorite iteration of these silly questions is when someone thinks that the ACTUAL time of day (not the one displayed on the watch) dictates when you can use the quickset date/wind backwards.

I'm never sure what the person is thinking about what is going on inside their watch... There is NOT a little man inside the watch that is asleep between the hours of 8pm and 3am that would be disturbed and go on a rampage, thereby destroying the movement.

If you want to wind your watch backwards the best thing to do is do it under water...that way the water can get into the movement, lubricate the gears, and it will wind in reverse perfectly smooth. Problem SOLVED. Just make sure to use an ultrasonic cleaner afterwards to ensure the watch is perfecly cleaned...and ruined.

My rule of thumb is to never change the date on the watch until you know for sure that you are not in the danger zone...

Quick quiz for the newbies...

Let's say you lay your automatic watch down for a week and it's run down. You have not looked at it or touched it in a week.. You pick it up to wear it at 3:00pm. The watch has stopped @ 10:00. The date is 5 days behind from today's date.

What do you do to successfully change the date and the time to the current time (3:00 PM) without damaging the movement?

Show your work. Tell us what to do and why you are doing it....

I'd immediately send it in to BUSA because it's obviously broken!

Id wear it in the pool to lubricate it before going that far.
