IMO, Breitling is cheapening the brand and taking a very easy route by offering "special editions" which really only have different colors painted on the watches. I actually really like the new SuperOceans, but offering a variety of 5 different colors seems a bit over the top to me.

If you want to make a watch truly "special," use different materials and/or enhance the movements.

Limiting production on the exact same watch with the only differentiation being the colors on the dial or bezel doesn't make it "special" to me.

I completely agree with what you're sating about special and limited editions.

Off Topic question. How come my Blackbird has this caseback

while most of the others I've seen have the caseback that just says BLACKBIRD across the back. And why does it say "Special Edition", there's about a million Blackbirds.

Hi Roman,

The Blackbird (all models as far as I know) are termed Special Edition NOT Limited Edition.

I think the 'chronomat' caseback came in with the polished version (is your Blackbird polished?)

Yep, it's polished thanks. I've been wondering about that. So, why is it a Special Edition? Other than being AWESOME, what the hell is special about it?

I asked that question when I bought it, that caseback is for polished birds while the caseback that says BLACKBIRD is for the brushed birds. As for 'why is it special'.....who knows. :? Probably another brilliant marketing ploy.

I don't think they need to go crazy with expensive materials or change the movement - but make little tweaks to the winder (square it off instead of rounding it) - change the font of the numbers on the bezel and give it a black bezel.

I mocked this up - I don't think I have priveledges to post pics in my response - it's pretty rough and I'd do different markings on the bezel, but you get the idea...http://i458.photobucket.com/albums/qq30 ... oncept.jpg

Love the idea, looks good and a lot better then what those geniuses came up with at breitling.

I didnt think this was the case. I thought they "re-released" the blackbird with a different caseback. Im not sure which type came out first and I cant find the thread on this topic...Anyone else?

Prior threads have made it clear each version of the BB has several differnent casebacks. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Nor logic.

Brushed BB have two variations of case back, that one is from polished BB.

Is that the only one for polished BB?

Is there any logic as when which case back the brushed BB gets? Production year etc?
