I always wanted a Rolex right from a young age because i always thought it was flashy and people would have more time for you.

Now i'm older and wiser i work harder than i every thought i would have too and yes i brought a Rolex Submariner but i have grown to realize that you should buy it for yourself not for others to have a view of you.

So i sold the Rolex and brought :lingsrock: and now i feel i have achieved even more because i'm happy with myself and i don't give a shxx what others think of me or how i'm doing :nana:

I dont believe the statement "People treating you different" was referring to wanting to be treated differently but more of a point that some people for whatever reason choose to treat you different. At the end of the day it really doesn't matter we are all or should I say most of us can be guilty of this in one way or another. Assumptions are often made based on a number of things, the car you drive, watch you wear, clothing, shoes and area you live etc. Its all a part of society and we simply have to except that it happens and not sweat over it. If I'm wearing a nice watch and they believe or choose to kiss up to me because they assume I'm going to spend more money than the guy next to me then that's their problem.

I would say "If people are judging me based on my watch then that doesn't say much about THEM as a person. Its not my fault or problem their the ones assuming or stereotyping. When I was in my 20's early 30's, 6'3 225lbs with an athletic build and black I've had my fair share of stereotypes. Not having to wait in line at clubs, free drinks, special attention at restaurants etc you take the good with the bad I guess. Funny thing is I can tell you more about the composition of the moon's surface than any sport out there...but I look like an athlete so I must be one...toss in a Breitling and its!!!!

I wonder how many people buy their ROLEX because they really like the way it looks and don't really care for all the other top notch brands available. Or, they buy it because it's a ROLEX..... and they know the type of reaction they will get from others, "Oh, did you see, little Johnny has a ROLEX". "Wow, he must be doing pretty good". I think it's the latter. I've talked to a lot of people who don't know anything about watches, but they know ROLEX. Why, because it's a ROLEX.

I prefer mechanical to quartz and the perfect functions and features for me are:

- stainless steel case, screw-down back and crown
- size between 38 and 44 mm, as close to the smallest as possible, and possibly flat case
- wr at least 100 m
- sapphire crystal
- chronograph up to 12 h
- possibly screw-down pushers
- turning bezel 0/60 count-up
- blue, black or blue/black ("blackeye blue") dial
- dots or lines for hour markings and no roman or arabic digits
- day-date feature (on some models day may be missing)
- no "drunk" digits in date window
- good night-time visibility
- steel bracelet, fine adjustable
- simple deployant
- possibly double pushers for deployant
- possibly manufacture calibre, if not, VJ 7750 or LWO 5100, hand-winding: VJ 234 or 72C
- if manufacture calibre, possibly with "high watchmaker art" (decoration, jewels enough, column wheel, balance bridge, Breguets hairspring, direct regulation by screws on balance wheel, etc.)
- brand with tradition
- watch design that I subjectively like.

This watch has not been produced yet! A few watches are quite near to this combo, and I'm lucky enough to own the majority of pieces that are close enough to my combo of wishes and that I like.

Breitlings are closest:
- Chrono Cockpit (my daily wearer on weekdays) misses weekday feature, screw-down pushers, all-dark dial and double pusher deployant - all-blue dial will come this year!
- Chrono Superocean (my usual wearer on week-ends, sports activities and holidays) misses all-dark dial, relatively small and flat case size and double pusher deployant.
- New Chronomat B01 (maybe I'll buy one some day, now I hate the new bezel digits and the oblique date window but love the blue/black dial) misses weekday feature, upright date digits, small size and (I think) double pusher deployant. But all these watches are quite close to my ideal watch and I think Breitling is the manufacture to produce even closer watches in the future.

So back to Rolex: though I used to own a few, no more Rolex for me, because if a brand is able to produce these useful and widely sought-after featured watches but refuses to do that (no weekday for steel watches, even no date for their chronograph, etc. etc. - I'd love to buy a steel Daytona with day-date and turning bezel, seems impossible today) then this brand is not for me. So Breitling, maybe IWC, maybe Tudor by Rolex (look at the new Hydronaut II. Chrono: hopefully they'll improve this model further in the following years), maybe JLC, maybe Omega or TAG-Heuer. But no Rolex, thank you, though I understand if someone prefers this brand. Even if I'm "underrated" - I much prefer to be underrated, though usually wearing Breitlings would tell you the opposite.

Best regards: Robertus

How about the Sinn 103.060. I'm wearing my .061 today (arabics & black sub-dials)

Image

ETA 7750 rather than in-house movement but ticks most of your boxes. Available with steel bracelet for €1500 list.

I have a 103 with a spare 303 dial, but this one is up for sale (with a few others): rare wrist-time beside the Lings. Nice watch though. Enjoy!

Just to be clear, its not that I wanted to be treated differently and I definitely bought the watch for myself (most of my friends said I should get a Rolex sub) but now that it has happened a few times I definitely am enjoying it!

I did?...hehehe... what I wanted to say was if they are judging me based on my watch then it says allot about them as a person.. being shallow, closed minded etc.ahhh you know what I mean.

Funny thing I just got back from a Physiotherapy appointment and got a compliment on my yellow dial SuperO. Receptionist.. "Ooh that's a nice spring "Flowery" watch, I love the Yellow!" although I welcomed the compliment just never had the term "Flowery" used to describe it before.

I've been called allot of things but the big guy with the flowery watch has never been one  .

I have had very few people know what my watch is, a few have commented on how nice looking it is though, But hey, I am in Vancouver, my Breitling is cheap compared to many of the watches on peoples wrist if I go to a cafe in Yaletown!

I was in an AD the other day that sells amongst others brands Rolex and Patek, I asked him if they were suffering in the economy and he said Vancouver was one of the best places to be as a high end watch seller as a great many here are the super rich who can afford to sneeze and lose $10,000,000! I must admit looking at the number of Bentley's and Ferraris in this city I do not think he was wide of the mark!

Must admit I long ago let go of the people in my life that judged me by how much I have in the bank or what car or wristwatch I own, most of my friends baulk at $50 for a Timex!

I've never been treated differently because of the type of watch I wear? The majority of people who see my watches don't even know of the Breitling Brand, unless they themselve are into watches. I've gotten just as many compliments on watches costing a few hundred as those costing a few thousand. Whenever we get compliment or someone take notice of something about us, confidence is automatically boosted. I think what causes people to treat you differently is your attitude, confidence and demeanor...perhaps wearing a nice watch helps bring that out and thats what people are picking up on.

I don't think I run into very many people that recognize a Breitling. I have had some people surprise me when I've least expected it though. At the grocery store, a checker told me in a hushed voice that she liked it, and the way she said I knew that she didn't thnk it was just a pretty watch, she knew it was not run of the mill common. I remain sure she knew Breitling.....the fact that she was admiring, but not in a loud way was cool.

I have found myself hiding it a little when trying to feign poverty and get a good deal on some purchase I'm wanting to negotiate.......ironic since I'm likely one ofthe lesser moneyed guys on this forum.

I have contended here in other threads that my Breitling is for ME and I could care less who else knows what it is, or what they think it says about me.

PS: Fakes are for Fakes. (can't fool yourself eh?)
