I'm going to have to walk back my initial reaction a bit...

I hadn't really focused on Fred's photos closely, but now it seems apparent that the core inspiration for the Chronoliner was this 60's version of the Unitime, and not the AVI (though the minutes subdial does take a cue from the AVI)...

Suddenly, the Chronoliner makes much more sense to me as an updated Unitime. I'll still go with my original notion that the design would be better served by use of the B04 movement (along with a smaller case size). And, I'd still love to see a re-incarnation of the AVI bezel one of these days. But, all that being said, it looks like Breitling has actually done a fairly good job of re-imagining the 60's Unitime.

overall a positive receipt

I am still of the opinion it should have had the B04 movement and layout , it would have been a killer watch @ 43mm

Totally agree on all fronts there.

just to clarify, I like the Chronoliner and I do not expect Breitling to produce copies of their vintage pieces.

but I'd love them to stick to reasonable sizes - and 43mm is plenty big enough for almost anybody, feedback on several fora seems to confirm this.
and yes, 3-6-9 subdials would have been better; still it is one of their best recent releases.

I seem to be in agreement with a lot of the comments above. It's way too big at 46mm (why :!: ) but I like the look of the watch a lot. I'm fine with the layout, and 3rd hand, and love the ceramic bezel. Both bracelets work well for me although I slightly favor the Navi bracelet. Overall a great offering.

Well I disagree I think the Chronoliner is quite simply the ugliest watch Breitling has made in a very long time ,to me it kind of looks cheap , I don't much care for the bezel or the face , over all its a thumbs down from me . Now don't get defensive or offended its just not my cup of tea, besides Breitling has a great many watches that I do appreciate there over all aesthetic. Just not this one .

It's interesting to see such a strong negative reaction and of course perfectly valid and welcome. Supertaz1, which Breitlings do you prefer instead?

I'm a fan of all versions of the Navitimer's , Chronomat's and Transocean Series are my favorite's . I own around 130 Watches with only 5 being Breitlings . I don't know if the Chronoliner is a new direction for Breitling or a one off ,its reminiscent of some of the deep blue dive watches, I think that more than anything is why I'm not liking it much .

That's really interesting. We like the same Breitlings but have very different reactions to this one. I'd say the Navitimer, Chronomat and TransOcean ranges would be my favourites too (I'm not keen on the latest Chronomats but love the Evo and earlier and the retro feel of the Airborne). I guess that's what keeps the forum compelling reading: the differences.

Can't really fault the design but nothing about it really impresses me either. Would just say that it's a safe looking watch but no temptation at all to own one. The bezel looks a little "Rolex wanna be"'to me. No unique character of its own IMHO.

I like it a lot. Can't wait to go to Basel in a few weeks and see it in the flesh!

I like it a lot. Bucking the trend I really like the sub dial placement. Bezel is nice as is the GMT. Hits everything I like upon first look. Did not really care for the mesh on that particular watch...but I've always been a fan of it. Once I saw it on Navi bracelet I really liked it. Maybe just a tad big 44 better, perhaps, but I'd like to try one on and see. My guess is out of my comfort zone on price given the last few years.

I really like it, especially on the Navitimer bracelet. Ceramic bezel is really cool, overall I have nothing negative to say about it!

I still like it after letting it work on me for a few days. Am concerned that in the metal (and ceramic) the subdials may look too big on such a big size.

I'm still absolutely loving it myself, but let's remember it IS basically just a Navi World with a rotating bezel added. I'm pretty sure it's a Navi World case (the size and shape, and non-screw-down crown), plus Navi bracelet option would seem to bear that assumption out.

That's not a complaint at all : just an observation, and quite interesting how just changing a bezel can create such an apparently polarising watch.
