Being new to the site I think letting us newbies catch a glance of all the beautiful :lingsrock: watches is a great idea...

Thanks for taking the time to do all the heavy lifting :D

What will nomination rules be? Will we be allowing both LE and normal versions of same watch again?

I'm trying to come up with a framework with options for people to vote on. The LE thing last year felt a bit hit and miss - to me if the watch is materially different then I have no problem having it as a separate entry - the LE GMT versions of a couple of watches from a few years back for example, or the blacksteel or 'code' versions. I don't think that LEs that are simply logo versions should be allowed in because I don't believe that they are materially different - but if consensus is that they should be then happy to go with the masses.

That is a tough one.
Some LEs are not that much different to the normal run but others are significantly different.
For example there is not that much difference between Navi 01 LE and the standard Navi 01 even if the display back may be nice. Then we have the dilemma of the white dial LE and the blue dial LE :-(
At the other extreme is the blacksteel LE and a SS standard version. To me two very different watches.

I agree. Perhaps where applicable the LE can represent the range? i.e. I believe TOC LE has the nicest dial out of the ones offered, and would make a great representative for the whole range. Same for DB Lemania Cossie etc.

Here's what I am thinking right now as possible approaches. I'll do a poll so that people can vote, so don't try and vote here, but should I add in any other options to be considered:

1) Same as last year
2) Same as last year with Navi 01 excluded as the reigning champ.
3) Range based (Aeromarine, Navitimer, Professional, Galactic, etc
4) Range based with Navi 01 excluded
5) Range based with range winners going into a 'champions round'
6) Range based with champions round, Navi 01 excluded

I also like the idea of an all brands contest in addition to Breitling, but would like to get your input on a few aspects first. Again, I'll do polling on details when we get nearer the time but for now, any thoughts on.....

a) Should it include Breitling or just all other brands except Breitling?
b) Should we limit the price. I don't want to exclude PP, Breguet, etc, but also don't think that we can have a meaningful vote between a $2,000,000 plus PP and a Casio Frogman? I am thinking list price of $25K or less to keep it to 'normal' watches
c) Should we limit the number of watches from any one brand to make sure that there is diversification (may need some prelims to get the top (say) 4 Rolex, Omega, PAM, etc)?

Let me know your thoughts

Breitling would be included in my view.

b) Should we limit the price. I don't want to exclude PP, Breguet, etc, but also don't think that we can have a meaningful vote between a $2,000,000 plus PP and a Casio Frogman? I am thinking list price of $25K or less to keep it to 'normal' watches

I would limit it to a maximum price - maybe $25K - which keeps watches way out of the realm of ownership for the vast majority of members, including me!, off the list.

c) Should we limit the number of watches from any one brand to make sure that there is diversification (may need some prelims to get the top (say) 4 Rolex, Omega, PAM, etc)?

Four seems reasonable to me, especially if we have a price cap.

Let me know your thoughts

I like the idea of opening it up to other brands and limiting it to 4. I also like the idea of a $25K retail price cap. I guess I won't be nominating the Patek 6002.

Initial thoughts are the Breitling contest in some form and then the "other" favorite contest. I initially thought Breitling should be in the second but I'm starting to lean the other way, the favorite 'other' would eliminate any inherent favoritism for Breitling. You could even go in brackets of 0-$10K and 10-25. A PO chrono vs., say, an Aquanaut or a Marine is an odd matchup. Then again, maybe not. A lot of options to consider, and somewhere down the road, if you really want to shake it up, a favorite "indie" contest could be fascinating, though the criteria and nominations would be a challenge.

As I mentioned, it's no point having a greatest watch contest as the Sub will likely end up winning.

There are much better watches than a sub, depending on price of course. the sub is a good watch but there are nicer watches.

Just to clarify, my position is for a Breitling only. Then when we do an all brand, Breitling ought to be included. Two separate polls, not likely not running simultaneously which is what Roff was suggesting.

If Breitling is included in the 'general' watch contest then I would run Breitling first and the final four Breitlings qualify for the general watch by default.

I think breitling should be excluded from the other poll. Its no secret people on here like breitling a lot or they wouldn't be on the breitling specific forum. I think that might skew the results too much and provide too much of an easy win for breitling.
