Just received the new packaging, with a new watch inside and....all I can say is that it's really sturdy cardboard. As far as cardboard goes they didn't go for the cheap stuff. :?

Congrats on the new watch, TL! Anything you want to share? :D

But saying at least the cardboard is sturdy is like saying, "I fell out of my 5th floor bedroom window today, but at least there wasn't a massive spike at the bottom!"

I'm glad you picked up on my sarcasm. 8) The cardboard presentation box is ridiculous, I'd settle for anything that was a bit more rugged and worthy of an "instrument for professionals".

The watch was a surprise from my wife, I had tried it on about a year ago and liked it...I've always wanted a calendar complication but find so many way too dressy and I don't have the opportunity to wear such a watch very often. I know some don't like the red bezel, but as a casual watch with this type of complication it works for me. I'm really enjoying it and the red bezel.

The collection is growing, though like many of us...I think that Breitling is straying a bit from what attracted me to the brand these many years. I own most of the watches that I really like from them. The ti CA is my daily, that watch can take a beating!

Congrats on the pick-up TL! I must confess that the red bezel most definitely isn't for me, but the rest of the watch (including that great movement) are very nice indeed!

I'm with the others on the red bezel, but can see how it works in a casual situation! nice pickup!

Just thought I would share this impressive box with you guys, it came with my Raymond Weil Nabucco Rivoluzione. It's a massive box with LED lights and a pair of matching carbon fiber cuff links, I thought the super avenger boxes were
Large and nice until I got this one.

What? It doesn't play "Camptown Races, Doo Dah, Doo Dah" as well? (I gotta believe Raymond is compensating!)

I hate to keep flogging this mule, but is it possible we've been spoiled by the overwrought Breitling packaging of yore? Most of the "name" brands all do some variation of the standard vinyl leatherette hinged box with a felt lining. Omega does it in red, TAG does it in black, etc., etc. Nothing special or particularly elegant about that.

Seriously, how is Breitling's industrial strength riveted cardboard with a cool travel case inside any worse than Omega's leatherette box? One is what it is . . . the other is pretending to be something it's not.

Here's the crappy packaging my 10-year-old Sub came in. The Invicta I bought for my son a couple of years ago had better packaging than this. (Current Rolex box is slightly nicer, but not by much.)

OK, rant over. I just think we're getting our panties in a wad over something that isn't all that important in the grand scheme of things. It's what's inside the box that counts. And if you don't believe that, just ask Rolex.

No arguments with any of that, except..........

None of the other brands have taken a huge step backwards in their packaging and I fail to see how cardboard is an advancement from bakelite. If Breitling had gone from cardboard to cardboard with rivets we would have had some "I like it" posts and some "I hate it" posts, but as it is Breitling has just taken away a classic, quality box and replaced it with the same stuff that a frozen pizza sits on.

Does it come with that 12V transformer to power the LEDs or you have to buy it separately?

I know, it was just a humor attempt with reference to the 25A power transformer in the picture ;-)
Cool box!

As nice as it is, I take the watches out and store the boxes away.

Thanks everyone, been lurking. I do wish it was on the other side, maybe one day...

I think the issue with the box is a relative one as it is seen as a step backwards. If we didn't know any better, we probably wouldn't care.

Maybe they should keep the bakelite boxes only for watches that have the b01 movement? Differentiate that a bit more.

I don't like these new boxes one bit. IMO, if you're spending upwards of $5,000, the least Breitling could do is give you a nice box to store it in.

Wow old thread coming back to life... Sorry for posting on this old thread because I wasn't a member back then and I can't help peeing on Breitling here. I think this is the only thread where all members "unite as one family" . Undisputed agreement that the box is the worst of the worst change Breilting has ever made. IMO packaging is an essential component of a luxury watch and must never ever be discounted. It's such a pity that the old Bakelite box was removed as that was the only part that Breitling obviously triumphed over all the other brands.

I was already presented the new cardboard style box when I purchased my Chronomat 01 LE last year. However I did not pay much attention to the box as it was my first Ling and didn't know much about their boxes then, I was happily admiring my new purchase when by chance I came across a youtube clip on unboxing of B01. I went cold upon seeing the Bakelite box in the clip and compared with my own. I comforted myself thinking that the Bakelite box shouldn't be that "good quality" as it seemed in the clip. I got to know that mine is the new type later on but couldn't get my mind off the old Bakelite box. Finally after about 2 mths I decided to contact Breitling and said I wanted to change my box... I am damn grateful to the AD whom I bought the watch from because she gave me a Breitling For Bentley box which was the wrong one! Using that as excuse I requested to change and was so happy that they agreed. The staff at Breitling was very professional and helpful that they even gave me a choice of the old Bakelite Box and the new correct cardbox for my B01. Of course I went with the former! Man I didn't know how lucky I was until I physically touched the Bakelite box. The superior quality of the box blew me away and I felt so pampered by the new box. I would have regretted the rest of my life if I had not exchanged for it. Even though it has been idling in my drawer since then, the feeling is like I have gotten another "collection" with the same amount. Makes my purchase feel more value for money. This box is now a Breitling classic and I have "2" family heirlooms to hand down to my child in future!

Definitely a wrong move by Breitling here but I am kind of glad by the change. Because it will make what I have more rare many years down the road. Lol...
