Thanks a lot, Murph, for starting this thread two days after I posted my Colt for sale. Geez! I'm seriously considering delisting it for the reasons you cited, all of which I agree with:

It certainly is a beautiful and highly wearable watch . . . and never to be made again. Tell me, am I nuts for thinking about parting with it? I was just trying to raise funds for an Explorer II, but maybe I need another strategy.

This thread has helped me decide that a 4th Ling might still be a possibility. With prices going way up across all brands a watch such as the Colt Auto II represents one hell of a deal.

If they put an auto inside. It'd still be butt fugly outside ;-)

Yeah that. The point is simply that they dropped a really nice, versatile, and affordable automatic and now all the Colt "range" has is larger fugly analog quartz watches. The Colt Auto II was a very nice sport/dress crossover watch at the low end of the automatic price spectrum. Breitling has not introduced a model to fill that gap.

I agree, hence the comment that "the distinct mechanical Colt ... doesn't seem to have an obvious successor in the new lineup."

My point was simply that it makes more sense to conceive of the Colt 44 as the successor to the Colt Quartz than of the Colt auto, which doesn't have any obvious successor. Which I think we're all agreed is daft.

I have no problem with it being brushed steel. Let Rolex and Omega do ceramic - the brushed steel bezel is one of Breitling's signatures. My issue is with those grip lumps, and the complementing lumps on the case, which make the watch look like a TAG.

That's the issue for me too.

I think it has far more value than what youll be able to sell it for.

I think what RJ means is that the Colt's intrinsic, non-monetary value is not fully reflected by any price it could reasonably be expected to sell for. Then again, if we keep talking it up this much, we might cause a price spike.

I think the Fish has the same issue. Beloved by everyone but not necessarily huge resale value.

On a percentage basis the watches being discussed typically resell the same as other non-manufacture Breitlings. It is just that they were so silly inexpensive to begin with that there isn't much buck left for your sale bang. Or something like that. I sold my Fishies because I reluctantly decided they were just too big for me. I sold two Colts because I was stupid!
