No, you are right Roff and they can remain hidden for many years and are often suffered in silence. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is one of those disabilities and is truly gruesome - I thank God that during my 23 years service to Her Majesty the Queen, I was never injured or found myself suffering PTSD. The point that I am making here is that 90% disability is completely devastating - meaning that the poor unfortunate soul is practically incapacitated. There is one guy - probably the UK's greatest HERO IMVHO who springs to mind.

Ben, wanted to stay in the British Army (that he loves) so that he can continue to recover from his horrendous injuries. He was very nearly discharged from service but thankfully he is now staying to continue with treatment.

If asked, I am sure that he would never say that he was 90% disabled - I would bet that he would say he is 90% able bodied and fighting to get the other 10% back. He isn't only physically disabled but also has severe brain damage. Ben, I take my hat off to you and very humbly bow in the utmost respect  .

I am not saying here that one disability is worse than another - what I argue is that near total (ie 90%) disability is not a true reflection in this case. If that mental illness is so severe - what could happen in the air? What could happen if this person had a 'flashback' whilst flying over a heavily populated area? I would really like to hear a doctor/psychologist view on this.

Whilst I realise that there may be people here who think that I am wrong - I just feel so strongly to convey my feelings about someone who claims to be 90% disabled who can still own and fly an aircraft - whilst showing photos of him standing next to it. May God forgive me.

Good story. I'm not familiar with the military covenant but "shameful" doesn't seem enough to describe the initial treament of someone who's given so much for Q & C.

I'm with you on this one.

I find it amazing that one governmental department (Vet. Admin.) can classify you as 90% disabled while another governmental department (FAA) can classify you as physically & mentally healthy enough to fly.

I'm actually more about coins than watches, and totally agree, putting money into watches is not a good idea as an investment. Stick to what you know! One thing I would suggest to think about is to buy some coins valued for their rarity and not just gold content because they are probably a safer bet... unless you believe gold has nowhere to go but up. I'm certainly no stockbroker but do believe diversity makes a lot of sense when investing.

I agree. I am going to look at buying watches as just somehting nice to have and not as an investment. I got a call from a watchmaker that works for Moodys Jewelry today and he said Breitlings do not hold their value as a Rolex does. He said they are getting there but dont buy them as an investment.

I am just going to stick with coins as an investment. I bought 12 various year Trade dollars and 50 various year Morgan dollars today for $1950.00. I know I got a great deal on them..

Really, the coins, I buy them as something fun for my son, wife and I to do. We each have a particular coin we like to collect and we are always on the lookout for a good deal when we are out and about..but, when I die, the coins will be passed down to my son. Then he can do as he pleases with them.

My Breitling SOP was sent off to Breitling today and was told that they are shut down for 2 weeks so I should know something on it in about 3 or so weeks. It will have a total restore. The money it cost me to get restored is about all its going to be worth, but I will have a nice everyday watch to wear....so all is good!
