Metal last for ever, and you can get them cheaper if they come with a watch.
Rubber has to be replaced every few years.

But what matters most is personal taste.

The obvious answer is it isn't an either/or - get a watch on SS and buy a rubber/deploy too. Two completely different looks/watches for the cost of an extra strap.

Yep. Trust me, once you own a Breitling rubber strap on deployment you will no longer think that it cheapens your watch.

I have rubber as a second option for some watches - Panerai and Omega PO and a reticulated rubber for a JLC Diver (we'll see how that lasts over time!). However, I prefer bracelet and leather for most watches.

As far as the price for OEM straps goes, I see it worth the extra cost to be able to switch every now and then and feel as though I have another version of the same watch.

Practicality. Rubber works best for me in the summer when the steel bracelet wants to turn my wrist green.

These combo's work for me.
The Ti bracelet is super comfortable in the hot summers and still stylish.
Or as stylish as a rugged Seawolf can be :D .

The Ocean racer is less blingy yet still smart and has a more active/out doors look and feel.
The rubber can get a bit grippy on the skin in really humid conditions.

All my watches are currently on rubber and I love it. Like others have said, the ocean racer on deployment is awesome. I have that on my SO Abyss 42 and it doesn't cheapen up the watch one bit. It's my only strap, and it has held up VERY well.

The ocean racer strap with deployant is great. I have had mine for about a year and it still looks new, certainly not cheap in feel or appearance and gives the watch a unique look. Also, the rubber is comfortable. The rubber part itself is not that expensive but it is the clasp that costs you. You can swap out new breitling OR rubber for about $100.

I just bought a pro diver II rubber strap on ebay for my SOH chrono. Also bought the Bergeon F tool which already arrived. Looking fwd to seeing how it changes the appearance and feel from the current croc strap.

I'll post before and afters when the strap gets here.
