And the Chronomat B01 is not an updated Chronomat, they are totally separate watches and both are still available.

The current Chronomat (non B01) is the same as the Chronomat Evolution - they just changed the name a couple of years back.

Any idea what the Chrono Evo msrp is/was? just wanted to get an idea of % markup.

This should answer all your questions about pricing. The MSRP on a Chronomat Evo with a Pilot bracelet in 2009 was $5840. The B01 is $1760 more.

thanks for posting that. so....based off of pricing the B01 is roughly 30% more msrp. Would it be safe to say that if the bentley motors was to get a similar in house movement that we could expect a 30% increase in msrp??

As the Bentley Motors already has such a substantial price tag, I believe that when the inhouse movement goes into the Bentley Motors or similar piece it wouldn´t be 30% more. In Europe it would cost then about 10000€. Of course it´s possible, but I think about a 20% increase would be closer to the truth. (That´s just an educated guess.) So all the non B01 Lings resale value should still be safe.

Hello Gentlemens,

I haven't got really the time to check the new topics as I was very busy with
the workshop.

But here are some general information about the B - zero - one (as we say in switzerland) :

The purpose ?:

- To guarantee the brand's independance from ETA
- To be able to determine their own production and quality level.

The philosophy ?:

- 70 hours power reserve
- The winding system operates in both rotation directions
- The vertical coupling clutch ensures perfectly "smooth" start without any jumps of the chronograph hand.
- The column wheel guarantees the prefectly accurate and reliable sequence of start/stop/reset fonctions.
- The fast date adjustement system, without any risk of damaging the mechanism.
- B01 is an intelligent platform (modularity, etc..)

Price ? :

- The price is, of course, higher than a simple chronomat. But I would say that Breitling
make a "gift" with the price of the B01, let me explain:
To ingenier, and develop a high quality movement like the B01, most of the other brand like IWC, Montblanc etc would sale the same quality movement around 30 000 $.

Technicaly ?:

I took me one week to learn how to repair a B01. I would say that, yes the B01 is a smart movement for watchmaker, but not everybody can repair it... you need the level 3 (minimum).
Other than 24 hour hand etc. you can module and adapt all type of complication like, chrono rattrapante, perpetual calendar even a tourbillon.
Eastheticaly the B01, is a beautifull movement with a very fine finish.

3 hand movement ?:

A project for this type of movement is currently being examined, as are other variations based on caliber B01.

If anybody has questions or comments, don't hesitate,

K.

so i guess its safe to say that one day all movements will be made in house? i wonder how long the transition will take? do you think that Breitling will push to get this done sooner instead of later or do you think the transition will be more gradual live over the next 10-15 years?

Definitely not. At least not on the manufacturer level. Inside a specific watch maker group all the movements will be made in-house, but probably not all group member manufacturers will use their own movement, but instead they will share movements between each other. So e.g. inside the Swatch Group I'd see Breguet, Blancpain, Glashutte and Omega to design and produce their own movement, but the rest of the group members (Longines, Tissot, Certina, Mido, Hamilton, etc) will share the same ETA/Valjoux movements and wouldn't design their own movements in-house.

I guess it all depends on when ETA will really cut off the non-Swatch Group manufacturers from movements.

If I were Breitling, I'd accelerate things up.
