It looks as good as ever, but that size and pricing are completely insane.

Wow, lots of action on this one today!

I STILL say it's a fantastic looking watch - better than the original IMHO - and the fact that it's dual transmitter is also a brilliant move by Breitling. I really genuinely love the styling.

BUT..... while I certainly like the larger watches (and by large I mean 44mm or so  ), I'm thinking that 51mm puts it out of the realm of being an everyday watch for 99% of buyers. Perversely, in these times of "fashion Breitlings", they have actually made a true Instrument for Professionals.... and ONLY professionals, as it's not going to be a comfortable wear with anything other than a flight suit. I can't wait to try one on to see if it is remotely wearable.

However, physically wearable or not, the one thing that most definitely isn't wearable (for me at least) is the price. £12K GBP??? Madness. It's a real shame it's priced like that as Breitling deserve to sell a few of them, and I can't see them exactly flying out the door at that price.

I guess at 51mm they won't make one in 18K.

Seriously.... You can buy a miniature PLB with more features and a much longer run time for under a grand. I guess it still won't fit on your wrist. :lingsrock:

I suspect that the size is dominated by the battery.

Typical... The one thing I asked to see in the EII, a higher WR rating.... I think 50m is a big mistake on Breitlings end IMO.

At these prices, would Breitling ease up on its AD discounts crackdown? 30% off would bring it down to about $10K... Positively a bargain! (Compared to $18K )

Reading thru the thread I was waiting for someone to comment on the WR. I'm sure there are technical reasons but 50m static WR seems way too low to me.

Not a chance they'll ease up on discount restrictions.

We know it won't float, it says so on the caseback

Absolutely stunning with the 'Coral' dial, I'm a massive fan of the Emergency and it was indeed the yellow dial and coral dial E's as my first purchases that started my 'love affair' with Breitling.

The size for me is fine, thankfully it's titanium, you can imagine how heavy that would be in steel!

But the price, Oh my!

It's definitely there at the top of my wishlist though, wonder if BUK will lend me one for my trip to Oz next week..................

Stef

At 51mm, any rock climber or mountaineer (as promo video) will have that scratched up in no time at all! But seriously, any watch could obstruct a climber from making that crucial hand jam.

Totally agree. This just bewilders me given the niche use of the watch.

nice article in the FT: http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/3731f5dc ... z2RThIotH6

an interesting quotes re numbers of the previous models sold and what I think bull "we only do it to save lives": Jean Paul Girardin, Breitling’s vice-president, describes it as one of the brand’s most commercially stable models, selling about 2,000 pieces a year. But he says it is not the sales that are the most impressive aspect, rather the numbers of lives saved. It has, he says, been used in a number of military situations, including one involving a fighter pilot and another with a paraglider, about which he is not allowed to talk in detail..."

Well it does save lives, no arguments there. However, so do other forms of PLB, and it's a little disingenuous to claim that "we only do it to save lives" when you put a nearly $16,000 price tag on it. Apparently 'we only do it to save rich people's lives'.
