Thanks for the kind words everyone. Some of you are curious what watch I'm interested in getting. The short version is the Super Avenger leaning to the blue face silver subs. I have strayed from this decision dozens of times. AS, Skyracer, Seawolf, Seawolf Chrono (I know its a quartz but I love that silver dial) but have always come back to the SA. I'm a big guy (6"5" 7.5 " wrists) and it suits me well. This forum has helped me learn so much and I am very gratefull. I know when I get the watch it will be something very special.

Archie- I respect your free spirit and attitude of "charge it" but i simply cannot justify charging 3000+ on something I can buy in a few months. Yes I would have the watch, but the sacrifices would remain. It took me a few years to realize the responsibility of having plastic. I blame it on those Visa card recruiters in college who would stop you on your way to class. Who wouldn't want a credit card with a $200 dollar limit AND a free frisbee?

Hey Jefferson!
They say that the older you get, the wiser you get. In a lot of way, yes, but some of us never learn. I will be 60 this year, and have only begun to learn how to save in the last few years. Sometimes the young, like yourself, are wiser in many ways that some people will never learn in their whole lifetime.
I can totally relate to you wanting to get the Breitling your way! I just got a new Omega yesterday, the most beautiful and most expensive watch I have ever owned. I actually sold two of my Breitlings to pay for it. I could have put the watch on credit, but I waited till I got the money in the bank. That really is a first for me.
The wonderful thing about this forum is the people first, and the watches second. I don't have a lot of money, I rent a room in a house, and have no car. I am very content. I have very much the same lifestyle that I had when I lived in Europe back in the early 70's. To a large extent I can indulge myself with my love of watches. And for that I am truly gratelful. A few good friends, my health, a job which I enjoy, and a good bit of disposable income, and I am pretty happy. We don't judge each other by our wealth here, we just enjoy our passion for watches. This forum is definitely a very big part of my life.
I am sure you will enjoy this place as much as all of us.
Great choice for the first Breitling. I don't know whether you have seen this post or not, but it's a guy with a blue dial SA, and a blue Ocean Racer strap to match. Just something to think about!

You might find that after you have saved, if you have to order the watch, waiting for it to arrive may yet be the hardest part! :(
In the meantime, enjoy the forums and the anticipation.
Cheers,
Carl

Hey,
It's in the General Discussion section. Here is a link. Not great pics, but gives a good idea of the dial colour:

Show your boss, and maybe he will be impressed enough to get you one!
Cheers,

I am usually in the situation that I don't have to save money for a long time in order to be able to afford another watch, although I am used to make a sincere calculation in advance. You will enjoy your watch in light of your daily sacrifices, the pleasant anticipation is the nicest part. Enjoy summer time and the couple of days before you'll get your dream watch...!

Good on you!

I think you would probably amazed at how many of us here are not millionares or even well off!
We just have a passion for things horological and put that above other things that may be important to others.

I have always since a child had a passion for watches, I have 15 now and love each and everyone of them. With the Breitling I was very fortunate to receive it as a gift from a client and luckilly for me I shall be receiving a vintage watch soon from a friend who knows my passion for watches and is thanking me for our friendship with one ( I have just given here my prized Mont Blanc to get her started in her writing endevours ).

No matter how it comes, as a gift or as something worked hard and saved for it will be something I know you will cherish as it is not a casual "oh, what shall I buy next purchase" but something that when you look at it you will remind yourself of your capabilities and commitment to projects and ideals that you start and finish.
Keep up the good work, it will be worth it!

This is the most sense I have heard in a longtime...Someone living within their means.
I am also saving to get the SOSF blue dial, I am almost there- 1/4 way to go.
I put a deposit the watch to guarantee the price.
Waiting anxiously! :)

nhayes- glad someone else is taking the high road. Although I have to admit thinking about just taking out the plastic (damn you Archie for rekindling the notion :) ) my better judgement has forbade me in doing so. Now that you are a member you should introduce yourself. When you get your watch make sure to post some pics of your new watch ASAP.
:welcome: :lingsrock:

I myself share exactly the same sentiment...

As a new business owner, it's tempting when you have additional income compared to when working under someone else...

If this was me even five years ago, it would have only taken one swipe of the fantastic plastic... but running my own business... it makes me put my priorities in order. I too am saving a bit here and there for another vintage piece. But I know it'll taste much sweeter once I get there...
