I didn't mean to troll at all here. I am a huge Breitling fan and I love my Aerospace. However, I did think it was funny that the TS thought he was being treated differently because of his watch. I live in Vegas and every 18yr old HS drop out has a fake Rolex or Breitling it seams. I have my watch because it's an awesome watch and a piece of history. I'm an Air Force pilot, and I think it's awesome that Breitling's where issued equipment to pilots in the European theater in WW2. That is why I am a Breitling fan, and I don't really care how others view it. The fact is, most people don't care, think it's fake, or think it's an waste of money. Just my $.02.

Well, I'm looking to buy a Breitling for the high quality and performance, that will last me for years and years. So there's no point in buying a fake--it would only give the illusion of "status" that comes with a nice watch, but would NOT live up to the objective of quality and performance.

I have zero interest in fakes.

(and yes, I'm an Air Force pilot too)

I always look at a person's watch & shoes-tells a lot about them. I love my watch, also don't forget not everyone can wear one. Its about your choices in life. Financial & lifestyle. If you wear fakes people can usually sum up the type of person you are pretty quickly.
I find I get treated differently in high end stores etc. I get flattered when I catch them checking the watch out.

HAHA, you can buy a replica for 60 bucks and the average person would never know the difference.

Probably true, but the problem is that I would know its fake and my confidence would be shot knowing im so lame that I buy a fake Breitling to impress people.

Working in NYC in (what's left of) the I-banking industry causes me to come into contact with a lot of folks trying to out-do each other with their watches.

What I enjoy most about wearing a Breitling (daily wearer is my white face two-tone Crosswind Special LE) is the number of times I've been approached by people wearing either a Submariner or Sea-Dweller with the comment that 'Oh, Breitling is a great watch. But you need to add a Rolex to your collection.'

It seems that this particular neck of the woods sees the Sub as some sort of hallmark of professional aptitude. But we've all seen and experienced the dangers of following the Wall Street herd. So perhaps the financial lessons are not the only lasting lessons that will come out of this disaster. Viva El Ling!

:usa:

I definitely don't understand the Sub thing. If you like them, great. If not, I don't particularly care for them. Maybe it's just that they are not my style and maybe it's that I feel like some people think that a Rolex sub is the only watch out there. I actually had someone wearing a green one tell me...

"That's an ok watch, but nothing like my sub." Mind you this was someone I barely knew and met at a party. Needless to say, I was very impressed by his boundless knowledge of watches..:)

To answer the OP, yes I do think some people treat you differently. Certain professions are trained to size your buying potential up immediately. It doesn't mean you can't enjoy the attention, just understand that they are either watch fans or they want to make money off you. Nothing wrong with either, just pointing it out.

I will say though that my best compliment came from one of the consultants that works for me. She knows absolutely nothing about watches but mentioned how much she liked mine. Compliments like that make you feel good about your purchase all over again.

Sometimes its just in your mind...the confidence comes out when you strap on the big B. Just imagine what could happen if you could harness that confidence and use it in everything you do

Aside from that, a lot of these people are trained to look at these things. They need to size you up to see if youre any use to them. It can be hard to get a peek at shoes or clothing brands or car sometimes, but the watch is usually easy to spot.

You couldn't have said it better! I suppose that I can't say really. I have been wearing a Breitling every day since the early 1990's, and I can't remember so far back, if people actually treated me differently when I had the nice watch. Before that, it was a Tudor and an Omega Constellation that my dad gave me in 1969! I quess that I have pretty much had a nice watch on my wrist for most of my adult life! If I had the courage, I would go out one day "watchless" and see what the reaction would be! :D
Cheers,
Carl

No one treats me different because the vast majority of people here didn't even hear for Lings.
I'm happy about it because I don't want to be treated differently just because of a Ling on my hand.

Generally same here in Budapest/Hungary, but I get sometimes good words about my watches (most of the time I wear Lings), mostly from my patients, none in restaurants or cafés etc.
NB Last time I was at the Croatian beach I had my IWC Fliegerchrono 3706 with me and that is a typical watch not shouting out loud the value...

+1

I've said it before, but it's worth repeating. If people are judging me based on my watch then that doesn't say much about me as a person. I run a business that offers services, people effectively buy 'me' or at least the standards, ideals, etc that my team represent. It's important to be able to put that across in a short period of time if I'm going to be successful, and it should have nothing to do with the watch I'm wearing.

My watches are for me, no one else.

I wonder how many people buy their ROLEX because they really like the way it looks and don't really care for all the other top notch brands available. Or, they buy it because it's a ROLEX..... and they know the type of reaction they will get from others, "Oh, did you see, little Johnny has a ROLEX". "Wow, he must be doing pretty good". I think it's the latter. I've talked to a lot of people who don't know anything about watches, but they know ROLEX. Why, because it's a ROLEX.
