You’re right, the previous version was a cleaner look however the new deployment is fantastic and there is no extra strap folded under your strap. For me the new style is more comfortable.

This might be a good place to raise a question I've thought about for a long time. Why do so many brands, now including Breitling, put the longer strap piece (the one with holes) on the top, 12:00 side, of the watch for deployants but do the opposite for tang buckles? Off the top of my head I know IWC, Glashütte Original, Rolex, and Patek do that. All of those brands put the longer strap piece on the bottom, 6:00, side of the watch for tang buckles—which I believe is the norm/tradition—but put that same longer strap piece on the top for deployants.
