Seriously, how many of these threads, mostly very old, have to be revived to discuss this?

I think until members get a satisfactory answer to their specific questions. The grey market has been discussed before - true, but VicLeChic has specific circumstances and wrote in that manner. Perhaps his seacrch for meaningful ansrwers to his particular circmstances could not be found in previous threads on this topic. I don't know, but I am prepared to give him the benefit.

Afterall, the idea of posting a topic specific to your enquiry is to get assistance on something specific to you, and perhaps broaden the knowledge base of other members at the same time. Whats the point of asking for assistance otherwise!

But asking the same thing over and over in different threads makes it very difficult for people to follow the conversation - hence why we ask people not to double post. Ordinarily we would merge / delete, but that's kind of difficult here with so many different angles from different times all being brought back from the dead at the same time.

If there is nothing existing that quite fits the specific circumstances the 'new topic' button works pretty well.

Yes, ONE thread would have been sufficient. No need for three.

Got the watch today :strummin:. The German online retailer got me a piece from a German bona-fide AD, who would have guessed...? Will not disclose more details for obvious confidentiality reasons with regards to the AD.

As I said before, I only went online after trying with my local AD who couldn't source it, after placing about 20 phone calls to national ADs, who couldn't get it, and being told on several occasions that the model in this colour has been discontinued at Breitling Switzerland. I'm not looking for excuses here, just stating what happened. Although I bought online this time, I still strongly support buying from an AD when the watch is available for all the reason we know including the price, as I would have paid exactly the same money at the AD (20 % off in this case).

I feel good with my purchase :superman:, I know I did the right thing given the circumstances. And you know what? I'm sure Breilting would understand... ;-).

Au plaisir.

Have I done something wrong here?

No. You were lucky to get stamped AD warranty from gray market.

Should I not have bought the watch at all, since Breitling have stopped making it?

I don't see a reason you shouldn't buy a watch you like, discontinued or not.

But I would most certainly check how old the watch really is when you get it (http://www.breitlingsource.com/articles_dating.shtml)- a US sourced grey market piece with warranty is so unusual I would really want to make sure that there are no issues.

The date on the case is Nov 2012, happy days!!!

But it turns out not to have been US sourced - that was the red flag for me.

Nice! Like the batons, gives the dial a cleaner look. Also looks good on the brown calf. Sweet pick up! Wear it in health.

Very nice piece of Kit Victor. Well done and congratulations on a fine pick up. :lingsrock:

Getting back to your 'White Market' observations. Yes, I think there are sellers out there who want to be as legitimate as possible and want to do the right thing by buyers, even if they are outside the usual retail providers. And even more so, if they have something no one else has they could be worth a look. So you have provided all of us with an example of buying wisely. 8)

I believe you owe the success of this purchase to your own sense of what seems right and what could be questionable when buying. Do the research and comb the market for deals and I think you can't go wrong. As I said earlier, if you have your eyes wide open on what you are about to do, you will not get too many nasty surprises.

Certainly the German seller will be high on your list for a resale sometime in the future and you will not hesitate to spread the word on his integrity. Markets forces are the best way of sorting out those who are legit and those you would be better off avoiding.

You better start planning your next Brietling conquest. :)

I guess I tried to put some acceptable boundaries inside that second hand online jungle.

Don't tempt me Jim, I'll have to leave the next grail - a proper dress watch - on the backburner for now. Unless a blackbird or SOH chrono 44 or transocean shows up. I'm also starting to be intrigued with in-house movements, pros and cons. Will do some research... This is endless.
