Diamond Like Coating. The thing that makes the surface of all the millions of Blacksteel models black.

It's a surface coating applied by a PVD type process, but is much tougher than "old skool" PVD. That said, it's not indestructible and can be scratch/damaged, so showing the colour underlying substrate through - in the case of Breitlings, stainless steel.

Or, is it that we were just harbouring feelings of embarrassment as forum members, if they pulled out any weird looking additions and changes at Basilworld? The sense of relief.

Personally my feeling are a little more of the latter than of the former, although I would say that, feelings of relief aside, Breitling have made a clear step in the right direction this year. Subtle evolutions of the Avenger line and Aerospace, a more radical but still tasteful evolutionary update of the Emergency, and some nice work with the Pilot Unitime. That, coupled with only one rubber-bezeled piece (so far!), constitutes a definite step forward in my book.

Next steps should (IMHO) be making the Bentley pieces legible again, finally calling time-out on DLC, and taking a long hard look at the price list in certain areas!

Agreed.

I don't think that we declare them to be "back on form" after one set of releases, some of which are hideous to the majority (it would appear). There are certainly signs of a much more positive direction, but first I would need to see evidence of any direction rather than yet another round of 'here's something different from last year, let's see what sticks'.

Thank you. For the very detailed reply.

I agree, the evidence is not there yet. But so far, so good. Transocean QP is looking desidely cool from the images.

It’s too bad we don't get a full ‘back story’ from the designers and planners of new releases. I for one am sick of the spin and marketing hype placed on many a new model. So, realism is needed when a new release (is that tautology?) hits the market place.

If anyone has the inside story, I would welcome a redirect on this.
