No question they are supreme. I'm not as down though on many of the brands mentioned. To me is has always been more of a typically sized strap versus Breitling and their unusually thick and firm straps. Most of the other high end brands use Camille Fournet as their maker and I have quite liked the ones on the IWCs, JLCs, Zeniths and one Breguet I've had. They are thinner and pliable with the idea they do not have to be "broken in" unlike Breitling straps do. Frankly, a Breitling croco would look silly most JLC or the other brands. (They big exception are Panerai alligator straps which are simply cheap pieces of crap).

Could you imagine how silly a Breitling strap would look on, say, a super flat Rolex or JLC? It would overpower the watch to the 90th power. (conversely, I think straps that are only like 2mm thick on most Breitlings look equally as odd)

Of course it would - works both ways. The only non-OEM I ever use on a Ling is a black alligator Hadley I use on my Navi 01 occasionally as it is just a bit thinner and works nicely with my smaller wrist. I would consider a thin-ish on the early Chronomats I have. I have a few Breitling calfs for them but can't imagine going all out on an OEM croco when I rarely will wear them off the pilot bracelet.

All true, though I read this thread with some trepidation, lest someone at HQ thinks, "hmmm, everyone thinks that the straps are the best in the business, let's reduce the quality to that of the competition..."

 I'm laughing now, but if this turns out to be one of those things that comes true, I'll be cursing this thread!

(Hmmmm, just trying to think if we ever had a thread proclaiming how great the old Bakelite boxes were........)

Good point. I take back everything I said. In fact, perhaps one of the moderators should destroy this discussion.

Totally agree, the new boxes whilst quite heavy and chunky are a bit, meh!

Bring back the Bakelite box with the yellow Breitling inscription, that was my favourite.

Hi Guys. Don't want to burst everyone's bubble but I took my 6 month old Black Calf 24mm back to my AD today. The two little loops has separated. The AD's reply "these straps only last about a year, and NO Guarantee sorry". I love the look and thickness of the OEM straps but surely they will last longer than a year ?????

I'm sure most everyone will say that their straps have lasted far longer than that, but either way that just seems poor service from the AD. I'd have thought that a good AD would simply send off for another couple of loops without further ado. I don't know about consumer law in SA but in most places you would surely be able to insist that that is not satisfactory. Ok it's only a couple of loops but on principle I'd not accept that and would want to escalate it.

As an aside, I had a Colt on leather strap, then switched the strap onto an Aerospace when I traded the Colt in; and after several months of daily wear I still found the strap so stiff and uncomfortable that I gave up and switched the Aero onto a bracelet. So, far from only lasting a year, mine looked on course to last several decades!

I've just collected my Strap back from my AD. They have glued the Strap Loop back together. It's looks good. Gonna wear it for a bit and hope it holds up. I did some research into leather straps last night and I love the thickness of the Breitling straps. I notice most other manufacturers does a thickness of +- 5mm on a 24mm strap. The two I have from Breitling are 6mm and 8mm think. I DO LOVE THAT !!!

Yes nothing compares, I'm up to about 12-13 24mm ⚓️ BREITLING ⚓️ straps and they are by far top notch.

+1: was very happy to change out the rubber strap in favour of the leather strap with deployant clasp when I bought my SuperOcean.

I was at the Breitling Boutique in London the other day. One of the salesmen told me that their leather straps usually only last 1 1/2 to 2 years while the rubber straps typically last about 6 to 7 years.

The last Breitling leather strap that I bought ended up stinking so I replaced it with a rubber strap and couldn't be happier.

I think the buckle plays a big part in this as well. I've got a calf strap on a Deployment buckle that has held up very well for a few years now but my wife has a Sahara White on a tang buckle that looks horrible after about a year. That Tang buckle sure does tear up the strap. Maybe because it lets it flex out too much when it's off the wrist, dunno...
