I would have to disagree on that. There is no money to be made to begin with for AD. The transaction is for a used watch, its not like this guy is going to another AD, buys a brands new Blackbird, then goes to the other to get it sized and to get them to show how it works. In this situation, the person is trying to purchase a used Breitling from a private party. The reason why AD would say that they will have to send the watch to Breitling is because most AD's can't open the caseback, and really, to be 100% sure, you won't know if it is a real Breitling or not until the internals are looked at. Some AD's might just not want the responsibility of saying one way or another. I helped out a customer with a similar situation, and was happy to explain to him why I thought the watch is real deal and what my concerns are as far as things I simply could not look at. He thanked me for the info, I showed him how to operate the watch after he made the purchase, we stood at good terms. A month later, he called me to order a new bracelet for the watch. There was a $1100 sale. Who knows, maybe when the time is right, he will come back and purchase a new watch from me, or at least give me a try first before going to another AD.
