yeah, i have like 8 eco drives, and an atomic solar g-shock. I just got sick of those watches. im new to these higher tier type watches, so i wasnt really sure what was out there.

Funny, I'm going in the other direction giving up buying more automatics and just playing around with a G-shock here and there. I've bought two in the last week and see how the price could make them addictive... but I don't plan on owning more than 3 or 4.

G-shocks are awesome. What i love to do is randomly check the time on the watch and compare it with the clock on the computer to see if its exact to the second. it always is. :)

Being a Bentley owner what else I like about the Gs is the size. I just bought a King G-Shock, and the thing looks huge, but probably won't look as big/bad on my wrist as most I see posted. I'd like to get a Frogman atomic but I think the pricing is ridiculous. I paid $230 for the King (atomic version) so don't know how they figure a froggy is worth 4 times as much.... it certainly isn't to me. Casio sure seems to be a great company and are very good at what they do. All that said, at the end of the day even low price watches add up which is why I limit myself to a few because I'd hate to do a count and think I could have bought another really nice auto instead.... but then again it would be nice to grab something different every morning when I head out to the gym. So who knows, it could get the better of me.

I own a couple of Froggies myself - a non-atomic and an atomic version - and yes they are a lot of money for G-Shocks.

However, the price is essentially down to three factors -

Firstly, they are all ISO 6524 certified, which means that every single watch in a batch is tested - not just a spot check on one or two that happens with most water resistance tests. Additionally the watch has to be tested in water to 125% of the rated value - hence very single Frogman ever made is physically tested to a depth of 250m. Some of the tests are also very time consuming - 50 hours for some of them. All of this means time and effort, and hence cost.

Secondly they're the only G-Shocks still actually made in Japan, they're the only ones with a steel inner case, and they use a higher quality resin. All other G's use a composite case and are made in Thailand nowadays. Japan has higher production costs than Thailand.

And lastly, the Frogman has an almost mythical status among many G-Shock fans with a truly fanatical fan base, which all translates into dollar signs for Casio.

Well your post puts the Frogman back to being a possibility at some point, but I'm ok for a while. Maybe next Summer I'll have a look again. I did just get this big boy, and it will do for now. I wasn't really sure about it, but like it better in person than how it comes off in the pics. It works but glad it's not any bigger.
