Could you imagine if Breitling came out with a new LE of 2000 42mm SOSF? It would sell out in a week. And it will never happen.

I agree. What keeps me away from the SOSF 42 is the pro 1 bracelet. It only came on pro 1 right?

Right. I think it was only made for one year.

Would it be possible to order a Pro 2 to fit it? I think the CSO (older gen) had the same lug width.

I'm a bit caught. I think the normal SOSF is too big but the 42 has the pro 1 and the colt is polished. I want a 42mm Steelfish with a pro 2 (that's also not 8 yrs old and needs a service)!!!

I would guess that the 42mm Steelfish would have the same lug width as the 42mm SO2 (20/18). If that's the case, and if the endpieces are compatible with both models, you can always buy a Pro 2 to fit the 42mm SF. Of course, that's more expense, but unless you can find someone selling a 42mm SF who has already made the switch, I don't know what else you can do about it.

Edit: oops...I forgot about the polished versus brushed thing. I think that might put the kibosh on it right there. Bummer. Then again, you could always buy a 20/18 Pro 2 and have it brushed, but the expense and the PITA factor are escalating pretty rapidly with this option.

The orig post doesn't quite compare like with like, though, does it? I mean, since the Colt 44 (2011-) is a Superquartz with the B74 caliber, I conceive of it as having replaced the Colt Quartz II (2006-11), also with the B74 caliber - rather than the distinct mechanical Colt, which doesn't seem to have an obvious successor in the new lineup.

Yeah that. The point is simply that they dropped a really nice, versatile, and affordable automatic and now all the Colt "range" has is larger fugly analog quartz watches. The Colt Auto II was a very nice sport/dress crossover watch at the low end of the automatic price spectrum. Breitling has not introduced a model to fill that gap. Shame.

I still can't decide what aspect of the new Colts I think is uglier - the bezel, or the "freshman major at graphic arts school" dial. The bezel would seem like the obvious choice, since it's the first thing to jump out and announce itself, but the more I look at that dial, the more it annoys me. It's those radiating line quadrants are what really put it over the edge. Without those, the dial would just look unrefined and uninspired - a slightly more utilitarian take on the SOII dial. But those lines are such a half-assed attempt at imparting some visual interest to a fundamentally uninteresting dial that it just makes the whole thing unpalatable to me.

I believe those radiating lines are considered to be guilloche/engine turned designs. Possibly
the reason for boosting prices. I cannot fathom eliminating certain Colts, & fitting the hold-
overs with Superquartz cals. As for the altered bezels, perhaps Breitling sent reps to bezelmania,
& felt this approach was an aesthetic tribute to form following function. Memo to Breitling: Check
with pilots, sailors, engineers, scientists, the public @ large before tinkering with an an (up & coming?)
iconic wrist instrument.

I like the new colt. Perfect size at 44mm and 14 mm, nice simple, clean dial. You can wear the colt with a suit, polo shirt, or swim trunks, on croc or rubber, it is very versatile without being obnoxious. The bezel, sure it could be ceramic and look much better but the brushed is not bad. I owned a steelfish and I like the new colt 44 better.

A gold-plated turd is still a turd. Ultimately it doesn't matter how well they are done: if they're ugly, they're ugly. I understand beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but to this beholder, those lines are far from beautiful.

I have no problem with it being brushed steel. Let Rolex and Omega do ceramic - the brushed steel bezel is one of Breitling's signatures. My issue is with those grip lumps, and the complementing lumps on the case, which make the watch look like a TAG. (Nothing against TAGs, but if I want a TAG, I'll buy a TAG.) To me, it makes the whole watch look rather gaudy, rather than tasteful.

Had they made the edges of the case and bezel more flowing, and gotten rid of the dial lines, I actually think the watch might be nice. I like the way the bracelet endpieces fit with the case, and I liked the brushed look. (Although I don't know why they kept the sides polished, given that the bracelet sides are brushed.) Had they done that, and kept a 41mm size, I might actually be singing a different tune, even if were not an auto. But as it stands, nope.

I found out who is responsible for the current Colt redesigns: Snooki.

131A from CSO and SO should fit, apart from finish.
